Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

Call your local Xerox authorised service. An engeneer ordered the new power supply and within a week came and changed it on my printer with no charge. No issues any more.

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

I had this problem a year ago, contacted xerox and they switched out the power board for one without coil whine. That's the way to do it. If the noise is still a problem then return the printer and buy something else.

If you're stuck with the printer then there's not much you can do about it. I narrowed down the coikl whine on mine to one component, which appeared to be an un-potted custom coil. So if you're feeling adventurous you could replace the bothersome coil with a high quality potted alternative that has the correct specification. Alternatively take out the coil, disassemble it and reassemble it whilst smothering it in epoxy. That will stop the vibrations and hence the coil whine.

Grow old?

Sorry, This is really NOT meant to be a snide comment. But, I suspect you have young persons hearing. Can you test and say if the sound would bother an old person say 50+ years?

I am intersted in how hearing changes with age. I am 62 and consider myself to have good hearing. Mine is audible but not bothersome to me. My wife can't hear it. The grandchildren can.

How old are you?

I suspect some acoustic wadding (a bit of old cotton towel) strategically placed, being careful about heat disippation and flammability etc would help.

Or if you can locate the offending torroid, there may be a way of specifcally acoutically dampening that.

I suspect there may be considerable variation between idividual printers too.

Contact Xerox support. They eventually sent an egineer to replace the PSU, no problems since.

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

Hi,

I have the same problem, and if I could I would sell the printer right away. Defenitively not to recommend.

Is there a solution?

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

tl;dr Unfortunatly still no solution.

A technician just came by with a 105K-34810 power-supply (Which was suggested as a solution by previous message).

Still makes a horrible coil-whine noise when in Sleep mode.

It's using a TDK 2430-X14, Suppsedly from 04-2014.

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

Just received my Workcentre 6515 (UK power supply version) on13th Nov 2020 and mine has awful transformer coil whine in all power modes not just sleep or standbye mode although it is worse in low power mode. Whine noise is definitely coming from the TDK-made 'ECO 2430' switching power vertical transformer fitted more recently to the low voltage power supply board. The only fix is to replace with same low voltage power supply board that has an original pre-ECO transformer since Xerox have no new replacement part for the problem they told me on the phone. Clearly not a well built cheap transformer in these new units. Of Xeros are prepared to send me out an original low voltage power supply board (part no 105K31091 (this is 200V SCC version that works in the UK), it is a fairly easy fit about 20-30 mins to remove side panel, screws, amd swap out the power supply board. I cannot find the original power supply boards anywhere online to buy. Ill be asling Xerox to find one in their warehouse and send out to me if they will. Otherwise, best options are either 1. place printer in a room where you cannot hear the loud transformer whine, 2.keep turned off until you need, 3. Return to vendor for a refundn if within returns period.
The field note fix Xerox put out for this issue is not ideal nor does it actually fix the problem i.e. opening various doors on printer or going into settings as adminstrator and chaging power off settings, did not work for me at all. Finally, a physical fix i.e tryign to muffle the offending trnadgormer wont work, it's just been manufactured poorly or was a big bad batch that did not pass QC and it was not picked up..poor form from Xerox though as it is a very good printer for home office use and OEM toner

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

Xerox service is frankly appaling.

Raised first request in July and have not heard from them since. Just called today and guess what - my previous request was just closed without any explanation!

They raised another request now, let's see what happens.

If anyone curious, this is how the noise look like on the spectrum analyser:LVPS noiseLVPS noise

There are multiple components, most people can hear the 8k-12k range, but there is also a lot on 20k that you can't hear.

Re: Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode

My dad (60y) didn't hear the sound.

The older technician who came in te beginning, couldn't hear it as well.

The technician who came to replace it here, did say that some printers have it worse than others, but that it's clearly a faulty batch. However, Xerox just sits by and waits for complaints, and sends a technician when support is contacted.

The replacement part should be easily available now, and when I made a follow-up call to support (since it had been very quiet ...), it was replaced in 2 days.
