Phaser 6180--is there any inexpensive way to set it to DHCP?

I just purchased a new router (my former one died) and it requires DHCP on network devices so that it can assign a TCP/IP address within its range.  I finallly figured out that purchase of at $700+ memory module will do the trick--but this is not a state of the art printer.  It would be half as expensive to buy a new printer that is purportedly the replacement for the 6180..   Considering my current investment in toner cartridges, I'd hate to have to do that. Or, do the same cartridges work in both?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to reconfigure the 6180 inexpensively? Or other creative solutions?

Re: Phaser 6180--is there any inexpensive way to set it to DHCP?

Hello CuriKat,

Actually the answer to this problem is in the Xerox Online Support Assistant here on Xerox.com. Here is the link to the Phaser 6180 Knowledge Base.

http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6180/support/enus.html

Just type in DHCP in the keyword search field of the knowledge base and you will find your answer (the knowledge base article contains step by step instructions to resolve the problem).

Hopefully this helps. If not, at the top of the knowledge base window you will find the 800 number for contacting the Xerox Customer Support Center (800-835-6100).

Thank you!  As it turns out, I found that the printer did have DCHP--its wonderful what you can learn when you take the time to read the manual.

I did also discover that I had to reinstall the Phaaser on each of my netweorked computers to have the router recognize the printer.  Once I did that, I could print from all of the computers on the network.

Hello CuriKat,

That's great news!  I'm glad that you were able to fix your machine and get running again.
