Re: UPS protection for ColorCube 8580

Jump to solution

For the record,

I connected a 480W UPS and it works perfectly with CB8580. I cant tell for sure for how long it can keep the printer "alive" after power failure (I only plugged the UPS off the wall plug for a few minutes) but it does work with no problems at start-up .

Thank you again for the overall feedback.

Hi Raveler,

sorry for delay follow-up. I was talking to some colleagues at Hardware that said the printer when booting up from a shutdown status, could, depending on several factors reach the 4x more the high W I mentioned.

Unfortunately I have no way to confirm this with a document and to be 100% sure you would have to ring support and get this confirmed from HW. Nevertheless, I would not expect a bootup scenario when pluged to an UPS.

Dear RuiC,

Thank you for your prompt reply. It was very helpful indeed.

I need to make a follow up question thought. What is the power consumption during start-up? I mean 282W during printing is low enough to be supported by most UPS devices. But does this power consumption increase during start-up? (i.e. put the printer ON again after shutdown).

Thank you again in advance,

raveler

Raveler,

I haven't seen any recommendations against the use of UPS.

You will need to consider how much power the unit consumes. Please make sure to consider expansion and an extra margin of performance.

The CQ8580, eletrical requirements state this printer :

operates on a non-dedicated line, but dedicated is recommended;

Voltage [100-127VAC (+6%/-10%) or 220-240VAC (+6%/-10%)];

Frequency rande of 47 to 63 Hz (+/- 3Hz)

Amperage: 12Amps (115VAC) and 6 Amps (230VAC)

Recommendation that the power source is located within 8 feet of the device.

Power consumption for the 2 modes 115W/230W respectively:

Print > 250W/283W

Standby > 74W/76W

Low Power Mode > 53W/69W

PowerSaver > 37W/38W

I hope this helps.

UPS protection for ColorCube 8580

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hello everybody.

I am wondering if it possible to connect my new Xerox 8580 to a UPS and what kind of specificaions should I search for (for the UPS). The manual mentions an average consumption of 252 Watt but I am concerned about the peak consumption especially during printing or heating up.

I would greatly appreciate your advise since my previous ColorCube 8570 was destroyed by a surge spike and I would like to protect this one from future problems.

Thank you in advance.
