My windows PC has "sucessfully installed" this update every day since March 5th. Seven weeks later, is there any indication that Xerox is taking responsibility for this and fixing the issue with this software? In the meantime, any advice on how to work around this would be welcome.
See Alkerion's post of 04-08-2021 06:05 AM earllier in this thread. All you can do is use the Microsloth tool s/he pointed to to hide the update. Whether this stops the daily installs or simply hides them from users I can't say. But it does not seem to address the daily run of WaasMedicAgent.exe which for many users causes their computers to be unusable for a long time after power up due to the disk IO of WaasMedic.
This experience of the constantly installing driver also seems to afflict users of other printers as well (mostly HP). In Xerox case, I believe it is a collaboration between Microsloth and Xerox to force "Type 4" (Microsloth "App Store app compatible") drivers down users' throats even though these drivers UIs are horribly lacking in functional user control compared to "Type 3". My limited experience with Type 4 drivers installed was that it stopped the attempted update. But I couldn't live with the lack of print preference functionality (choose tray, different paper size / type - including custom sizes I had created - etc.) So I went back to typ 3 drivers, downloaded and ran the wushowhide.diagcab utility to hide the Xerox Extension 7.208.0 update so I don't get either the daily install failed or install succeeded message / error.
I believe that since neither Xerox nor Microsloth will respond to this issue (and there are several threads with more than 1,000 postings on this issue in a Microsloth user forum) it is an intentional push to get you to use drivers suitable for mobile device access to printers at the expense of the flexibility and functionality of desktop application printing. The younger generation for whom cell phones are simply another body part that is in constant demand want all us old farts who still use desktop applications to just go away and die. Therefore all the new "innovation" has to just do simple basic crap that can easily be done with one finger on a small screen. The rest of us...?
You can disable this pesky update with PowerShell (if like me you'd rather not use a downloaded file from a third party site)
Only do this If your familiar with PS, usual warnings apply.

Thanks for the Powershell commands @wombleman - I tried the GUI tool (downloaded from the internet archive site) - and it worked - but then my PC installed about 2 months' worth of Windows 10 updates that had been blocked by the Xerox drivers repeated attempts to install itself. So if an affected PC can't get important patches from MS, this seemingly trivial driver problem could cause some serious security concerns. Does Xerox care?
Had similar challenge...running Windows 10 and driver update for "Xerox - Extension - 220.127.116.11" failed repeatedly.
Solved this by opening Widows Administrative Tools and launching the Print Management application. Double-clicked on "All Drivers" at the left of the screen...then, a list of printer drivers appears at the right. There were two Xerox drivers installed (even though I had previously deleted/uninstalled all Xerox printers). I right-clicked on both of those drivers and selected the option to "Delete" each driver. Once this was done, Windows update didn't generate an error.
Have you tried using your printer yet?
At some later date after a few restarts and cold boots you may find there will be an issue with printing docs from your Xerox Printer. Then you will have to re-install the driver. You will have to then run the Microsoft Utility, "wushowhide.diagcab" (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab) to hide the Xerox Extension 18.104.22.168 update. At least that was what I had to do to get rid of it.
Yes, uninstalling the drivers will get rid of it but as soon as you re-install driver so you can print with all the control of the printer's features that Type 3 drivers provide, MS will, after a regular incremental update attempt, start trying to install the extension again (or possible one with a different version number) on a daily basis.
Yes, that utility resolved the problem for me but for some reason MS has removed it from the download site so I got it from https://web.archive.org . Their snapshot from 21-Jan-2021 has the most recent archive.
It shouldn't be incumbent on your customers to download no longer supported Microsoft tools or advanced 3rd party tools from community sites to solve this problem. Rather it should be Xerox's commitment and responsibility to its customers to solve this problem for us. As Bill Belichick of New England Patriot's fame would say, "Do your job". I needn't tell you that superb customer support is part and parcel of a customer loyality.
This is a solution I came upon, no thanks to Xerox or those sites that try to get you to install weird third party software. This annoyed me enough to make an account and post here. I fixed the problem on my end based on this article:
You might want to try all the steps in that article but this is the specific step that worked for me. This involves going into the registry and editing it, so I want to include a warning here since messing with it can lead to other issues if you aren't careful.

Windows Update Download Error 0x800f020b
Delete Old Printers Via Registry Editor
Type regedit.exe and click OK (or press Enter on your keyboard) to open the Registry Editor.
Next, go to this key:
Delete the offending printers in this folder (basically anything that says Xerox in this case)
Restart computer and the update should no longer give that error.
Of course uninstalling all your printers will solve the update isse.
But what if you still need to print ?
