It is Apr 2014 and I am having the same problem. Xerox says on their support site for scanner disconnect problem to upgrade to firmware ps 4.9.14 or better. All they have on the downloads page is ps 4.9.10 which says it fixes scanner disconnect error but of course when I try to download it to the printer it prints the warning page and then just sits there. Tried 3 different methods to download it to the printer (ftp, centreware and xerox file downloader) I reset the NVRAM after each failed attempt. I even left it in the file download state overnight to see if it would eventually load. Nothing but a lot of wasted expensive ink. On another 8560 scanner problem (small pdf crashes problem) from 9/12 they say that problem is fixed in 4.9.14 but to load the latest 4.10.0. Xerox needs to keep their firmware downloads up to date and release them to all customers not just those that pay for support
Is it possible to receive this firmware or tech bulletin ? I have the same situation here. Out of warranty and the upgrade to the last firmware crashed the scanner connection. We can print but everything using the scanner are disable (copy, scan, fax).
Ok. So after about a week, a local service tech emailed me a Xerox tech bulletin regarding the upgrading of the bios on the phaser 8560mfp. This tech bulletin addresses the issue of the unability of the printer to download firmware upgrades when an error, such as "scanner disconnect" is being displayed. Posted in the bulletin is a link to download a firmware that bypasses the issue by not printing a "do not disturb" page.
There's good news and bad news. The good news, it upgraded without a problem. The bad news, the scanner disconnect did not go away. The even worse news... It's like pulling teeth to get a service tech out to look at a printer that is out of warranty.
I'm sorry Xerox, but this is the second printer in a row to have a major error (just after the 1 year warranty period), disabling the production at our office.
As our company office manager, I will not allow the purchase of additional Xerox products.
Thank you very much for the suggestions.
I used VMware to try and use the file upload utility through USB. I select the printer installed on the new USB connection, select the file to upload and then click send. The progress bar quickly moves all the way to the right and says uploaded to spoll. I click close. The printer prints the sheet with the caution, firmware update in progress. Then it just sits there, doing nothing. Similar to what it's been doing with all of the other methods. (I've been resetting the NVRAM between each attempt)
As I mentioned, I'm receiving the "scanner disconnected" error. Is this preventing the update? If so, is there a way to ignore the error? Thank you again.
is this helping :
Updating the FW over a USB connection
To download a file to the printer using the Xerox File Downloader Utility (Windows):
NOTE: This solution assumes the Xerox File Downloader Utility has already been downloaded and installed on
the computer.
1. From the computer, open the Xerox File Downloader Utility. By default, the utility is installed in the following
location on the computer's hard drive: C:\File Downloader.
2. Select the required printer from the Select the printer to spool the file to from the list below pull
‐down menu.
3. Click on the [Browse] button, and then browse to and select the file to be downloaded to the printer from the
“Select the file to send to the printer” section.
4. Click on the [Send] button to send the file to the printer.
Hi GatewayCP,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. If you have followed both the Firmware update failed and the How to load Firmware solutions and are still having issues you will need to contact your support centre.
BUMP.
I'm pulling out my hair. I'm having scanner connectivity issues, so I'm trying to update the firmware of our printer. It just hangs at 1% via the TCIP option. Tried FTP and it also hangs at 640kbs. Disconnected network, reset the NVRAM. Tried updating via USB, still hangs.
Using mac osx 10.8.
Any ideas? This is our 2nd 8560MFP, I'm about to give up. :(
