Re: Altboot fails always

there is two parts to an altboot, 1st part just copies the software to Hard Drive then it will say "remove thumb stick and push 0 to continue" then is will begin installation of software. if it displays failed on the first part then it is a hard drive issue. Replace hard drive. any hard drive above 160gig is fine. and yes the 500gig will work just fine. force upgrade and disable data backup is not required as the new drive does not have anything on it.

Re: Altboot fails always

Hello Gabi,

is there any way to find out where the 12 V for HD-Drive comes from. So, the question is: Do i need to change Power Supply or MainPCP?

Next Point would be, where can i get this part as used one?

Thanks for your help?

Re: Altboot fails always

Hi Gabi,

no, with your information about the 7segment display, I could find out, that 12 V Supply of HDD is missing. 5 Volts are measureable. 12V are not. Is this coused by Mainboard or is this direct from Voltagesupply?

This could mean the Mainboard (SBC PWB) is defect. Should be a fuse for this voltage, can not see any?

If there is no fuse, i think I have to scrap the machine. Bad expierience with xerox tec with first contact.

Thanks for your help!

Micha

Re: Altboot fails always

Hi,

If the 7 segment stops at 6, the RAP starts with checking/replacing the SATA cable, replacing the HDD and finally replacing the SBC PWB.

Re: Altboot fails always

Hi Gabi,

Thanks a lot for your great help!

NTFS format the hard drive did also make no changes.

It would be nice to know what the codenumber on 7segment on the SBC PWB means. It could be a code for what happens insight. Because I do not want to by expensive parts, which are working yet.

How to find out, what exactly died in the machine?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Altboot fails always

Hi Micha,

If the AltBoot starts it means the USB ports are ok (not locked).

Try to format NTFS the HDD. Try another USB drive.

The battery is almost Ok, it shoud have 3,3V, anyway the software upgrade should start.

Software Module is the one with the battery on it and it is 960K73451 Xerox part number.

The Memory, I think is DDR2 (833W39035 Xerox p.n.), but there is another memory on the board (EPC Memory) and this is special (137E30390 Xerox p.n.).

The LVPS is indeed the machine Power Supply and it looks Ok if the AltBoot starts.

And yes, it looks a hardware problem. You have tried everything you could.

Re: Altboot fails always

Thank you for your answer!

The USB is starting, Software Upgrade is written in the display, the machine makes mechanical noises like starting normal. But upgrade stops without showing the progressbars and now pops up a red "Altboot failed" Window after the scanner lights up and driving the slider. Thats the end of this story. Everything stops here.

AltBoot and not Altboot, => I have tried ALTBOOT, altboot not AltBoot yet! But I tested it now with no changes

FORCED_UPGRADE and nor FORCE_UPGRADE, => yes, I am using FORCED_UPGRADE - it was typo here.

The .dlm file name must contain # signs, like sw#06112122336000#.DLM, => "WorkCentre_7500-system-sw#06112122918600#.DLM" is what I am using, this is official XEROX download

The USB drive must be FAT 32 formated and the HDD NTFS, => tried FAT and FAT32, never NTFS

What is writting on the 7segment on the SBC PWB? => 0 > 2 > 6. Dot is flashing in different pattern. On Fail message dot stops blinking. Do not know the meaning.

Do you know if the USB ports have been disabled, because in this situation the AltBoot process will not start and you must replace the Software Module. => AltBoot is starting, but nut finishing. USB did always work!

...and if still not working it could be a hardware problem: Software Module (anyway, you should measure the yellow battery), a bad Memory DIMM, defective SBC PWB or a defective LVPS. =>

- yellow BAT is 2.79 Volt, should be fine.

- Bad Memory => is it special? Or is normal SODIM from Notebook or so?

- SW-Module? Where can i get one? Nothing found on ebay, i have already thought of it.

- LVPS? Is it PowerSupply? I think it is not, because machine seems to start up normal.

So far I can assume it is hardwareproblem?

Thanks for your help!

Greatings from Germany.

Re: Altboot fails always

Hello,

i have tried everything with altboot in every constellation. Is there any other way to restore firmware? I could not find any tech-firm, which could offer any help. How to prepair harddrive, or how to find out why firmware wont start upgrade process.

i guess i have to scrap the Printer and try to geg another manufacturer

Re: Altboot fails always

Hello,

replacing the Harddrive did not change anything. Altboot still fails.

Any Ideas?

Altboot is with DISABLE_DATA_BACKUP & FORCE_UPGRADE

Thanks!
