Re: C60 with EX Rip & Mac OS El Capitan Printer Driver Woes

Jump to solution

Read the driver release notes here and pay attention to the Known Limitations: section.

Basically, most of the Bi-di stuff either doesn't work or doesn't pull by default in 10.11 due to the new methods they have mandated.

EFI had to create a Daemon that runs in the background instead of using SNMP.

The outcome is the in the Color tab, the Basic and expert options are greyed out on any install that has any trace of any older Fiery drivers (even from other models) and if they are not greyed out, the are selectable, but open behind the current window. And if you don't open it, it never pulls the Color settings at all, so nothing shows up until you actually view it in CWS5.

The release notes before this version gave a much more detailed understanding, mine is just a synopsis (As I understand it, which may or may not be 100% accurate)

Good day. After some time running with this latest driver I am still seeing times when colour profile data listed after ripping is stripped with blank fields. I am now checking every ripped job to verify whether the profiles have stuck. At least I know I have to do this and it doesn't add that much time to a job but it's a bit of a pain in the ass.

I typically enable both since pdf is the defacto standard in print. No sense in having it on but unused.

Joe. While I was checking Fiery Server Configuration I noticed that under RIP Enable APPE was Yes... which I want. Beneath PDF Print Engine Preferred was at No. Should I be changing this option to YES?

Well... Not to toot my own horn, but.... Toot-Toot

I do 2nd level support for Xerox, specifically on Color printers.

So I take the calls from the customers that deal with RIPs, drivers, applications, scans etc after 1st level filters out all the jams and assorted broken hardware.

Your Analyst gets sent out by me, he gets the things we here either cannot fix because we cannot replicate , or if we need Network traces or eyes and ears on site. So things like drivers, specific firmware levels are not their day to day (I really wish it wasn't mine either ;-) ).

This explains why in many cases the Analyst gets to a site and immediately calls support (Still me/us). Nobody who works in the field, in a small confined area can know all the intricate things that a person who gets all the calls on a small subset of devices can know about them. The Analyst can go to a site and work for 6 hours on something already fixed 5 months ago, but they won't know that the thing they are working on is a bug that requires a firmware change, or the disablement of a totally unrelated option, or the format of the login name used to scan that only applies with Server 2012.

That is the kind of thing we see first, we replicate it under various conditions and either figure out how to eliminate the issue , or in (I think less than 1% of cases) escalate to the Engineers to fix.

Awesome!!! Why the heck doesn't our Xerox Color Analyist and Service Manager know about this!!! You're awesome Joe! I'll see about downloading and trying the dirvers downloaded direct from EFI.

Cheers!

Xerox does not have current EFI drivers ever, Your EFI rip typically does on the downloads tab of Fiery webtools assuming you keep it updated, you can select the Configure tab and then Check for product updates and search through for the drivers with the newest date. Full 10.11 drivers have been available since launch for 10.11.

Here is one example for the External Fiery.

And EFI have them posted on their site always:

Here is their site, bookmark it because they are the makers, and the suppliers for Fiery software

C60 with EX Rip & Mac OS El Capitan Printer Driver Woes

Jump to solution
Product Name: Other - specify product in post

We have a brand new install of a C60 with EX Rip and all our Mac's OS El Capitan don't have a proper printer driver. I've checked the new printer reference document and when selecting the link it drives to a page that doesn't have a driver.

http://www.support.xerox.com/support/xerox-color-c60-c70/downloads/enca.html?operatingSystem=macosx1...

Currently I've downloaded the previous version for OS Yosemeti and I can get data to print but some options "specifically" colour specific settings are stripped from the ripped file.

What is the solution other than exporting my jobs to PDF and manually importing the job to Command WorkStation? When will there be a proper driver for my C60 & EX rip combination?
