Re: ColorQube 8570 "Slow Down"

Cheryl:

OK, thank you for the responses about my ColorQube 8570.

I will await a firmware update. But because of the following, I don't expect one...

The Xerox Phaser 8560 (which the ColorQube 8570 replaces) suffered from poorly designed motor mounts that often failed, yet Xerox continued to manufacture the printer while fully knowing about the problem. The only fix was to have a technician replace the mounts with new and improved ones. (You can really learn about machines by talking to the people who service them.)

I suspect the problem I am experiencing with printing long jobs on the ColorQube 8570 is similar in that Xerox is aware that there is a problem with heat of the y-axis motor, yet they continue to manufacture it without correcting the problem first.

Re: ColorQube 8570 "Slow Down"

Hi Lux,

Your concern has been escalated. If a firmware change is implemented it will be posted on Xerox.com. There is no current outlook as to when this may happen. Thank you

Re: ColorQube 8570 "Slow Down"

Cheryl:

Thank you for the response.

I did check the solutions for the slow printing mode. This is what I found on your web site:

*********************************

Solution : This is Expected Behavior When Printing Long Jobs of 500 or More Pages

Printing may suddenly slow down during long print jobs if the printer detects that its Y-axis motor is overheating. This is normal behavior as the printer is protecting itself from damage. Typically, the printer is only likely to encounter this condition when it has been continuously printing a job of 500 to 900 pages on standard 75 g/m2 (20 lb) office paper. If printing on thicker paper, such as cover stock, the printer may slow down sooner.

It is recommenced to download the latest firmware release as it has been shown that it typically:

  • Doubles the number of pages printed before the printer goes into the "slowdown" mode.
  • Increases the number of pages printed when the printer is in the "slowdown" mode.

See the Related Items below for additional information on how to download and send the firmware update to the printer.

***************************************

I upgraded the fimware as suggested. It left the printer unbootable. A Xerox technician had to come here to replace the configuration chip (at your expense) so it could boot again. And the slow mode printing continues after printing several hundred sheets at a time.

The technician suggested that this is likely a design mistake because the Y-axis motor shouldn't overheat in the first place. I agreed.

I contacted the "support center" and received this genius reply. "Try the PostScript driver." I do use the PostScript driver!

Can you PLEASE forward this to someone who is familiar with this problem -- like an engineer who actually works on the ColorQube 8570 -- and let me know if there is a fix?

Thank you.

Re: ColorQube 8570 "Slow Down"

Hi Lux,

Thank you for using the Support Forum. Please take a look at the solutions for Slow printing from the support page for your machine.  As you will see one of the solutions is to upgrade your firmware.  I would suggest that you upgrade your firmware on the machine and see if that helps the slowness issue.  If you still have concerns after upgrading the firmware please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

Thanks,

ColorQube 8570 "Slow Down"

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Is there a way to get around the "slow down" mode after printing several hundred sheets at a time?

Here are my firmware versions:

System 1.3.8.P

OS 10.32

PS 4.4.0

Eng 23.P1.4.4.12

Net 42.10.01.07.2011

Before "upgrading" to this printer, I had a Phaser 8560 for years. It could crank out thousands of sheets at a time without needing to slow down at all -- and no problems whatsoever.

This "slow down" thing with the ColorQube 8570 is definitely a design/engineering mistake and pretty much makes this thing useless to me.

Please help!

Lux
