Engine Error 4

Product Name: Phaser 6600
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.11 - El Capitan

I have been trying to solve a print quality problem (Phaser 6600 duplex printer, roughly 30,000 impressions) - colour images washed out and seem to be missing any red - magenta - in the final image.

I have logged in to the service menu (holding the up and down keys while powering on) and tried a test print of the CMYK and get all four colours printing solid OK. But from other test menus, I get the error "ENGINE ERROR 4". What is this and how do I fix it (and is it likely to be the cause of my colour printing problem)?

Hello MJCreighton,

I cannot find that Engine Error 4 message. Are you getting any fault codes on the printer display? The codes are displayed in the following format: six numbers with a dash between the third and fourth number.
