Re: Installing memory in Phaser 6280

Jump to solution

In case anyone is reading this ...

My Xerox 6280 DN was starting to give me postscript limitcheck errors from what I assume are more complex pages. I tried upgrading the firmware - no fix.

So I searched forums like this and tried buying memory online to expand the tiny 256MB RAM.

I tried this very cheap 1GB ramL https://www.amazon.co.uk/Memory-Xerox-Tektronix-Phaser-DDR2-4200/dp/B009C6KNXC/

Installing it was super easy. All you need to do is unplug the power, remove the nut on the back which can be done by hand, open the metal window and there ready for you is an empty labelled memory slot. In it goes. You do have to press a little to hear the "click" but be careful not to break anything.

Power up, and check the config by printing the config page. It confirmed it now has 1.2GB RAM !!

And all my Postscript printing error messages have gone! I wish I had done this years ago...

Hi,

I just purchased the Xerox 6280dn printer.  I also purchased an extra 1GB of Kingston memory (M12864E40).  After I installed the memory and print a configuration page from the printer, the reported Memory Capactity is 256MB.  I double checked to make sure that the memory was installed correctly twice.  Should the Memory Capacity report 1280MB?

The specs of the memory I am using are:

Specifications
Memory TypeDDR2
Memory Capacity512MB
Memory SpeedDDR2-533 (PC-4200)
Buffered/UnbufferedUnbuffered
Error Correction CodeNon-ECC
Memory Slot200-pin SO-DIMM

Hi there,

I just purchased 512MB DDR2-533 (PC2-4200) SODIMM Refurbished for $6.99 - yes six dollars ninety nine cents - specs as below go to www.microcenter.com and do your own search.

Also check on ebay.

Once loaded the printer recognizes the increase in memory - check the configuration page.

Why is Xerox asking over $700.00 ??????!!!!!

Hello Steve,

I think I have the instructions that you need to get your additional memore installed in your Phaser 6280. Please see the 5 steps below for you to get your new memory installed.  I hope this helps, and if it does could you please let me know so that I can add this to the solutions list here on the Xerox Support Forum. (I will try to add an image file to help you but it may take until tomorrow before I can get that done.)

1. Power off the machine.

2. On the back of the machine, loosen the Knurling Screw and open the Window Shield.

3. Release the tabs on the memory socket securing the Memory Card.

4. Remove the Memory Card.

5. Install additional memory being careful to align it correctly, push in the card and snap into place.

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

I purchased additional memory for my Phaser 6280, and can't seem to find instructions for installation.  Is there a document someone could point me to before i start taking this apart to find where the memory goes?

Thanks,

Steve
