I replaced the black toner cartridge, but it's not being recognised as I'm still getting the message to replace the cartridge.
There are several postings about the same problem, and one answer given was -
"Did you remember to shake the cartridge and also turn it after insertion"?
I've shaken the cartridge many times, but how can I turn it after insertion?
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

Thank you for using the Xerox forum.
After reviewing the following solutions, you are correct that these do not turn and lock and I'm sure someone was confused that this was another model.
How To Replace the Toner (Dry Ink) Cartridges
I'd like to ask a few questions in order to understand the next steps
Thank you for the reply.
I have solved the problem - I hadn't quite latched the cartridge all the way in.
I replaced the black cartridge but the message "Insert black cartridge" never goes away. I've made sure it is securely locked into place. No matter what I do, it will not accept the cartridge.
I have the same problem, but I have definitely latched the cartridges in place.
Our Magenta is showing "low", so I grabbed the branded genuine Xerox toner cartridge from the shelf and replaced it. The display indicates I need to insert the magenta toner. I checked and re-checked everything, and it still doesn't recognize the new cartridge. Ironically, the one I pulled out, and is still working fine, is an aftermarket unit. I ordered yet another, and it also fails to be recognized.
I have cycled the power on this printer, to no effect.
I'm about to figure out a way to open up and pour the contents of the new cartridge into the one that works fine.
Please advise. This is not on a service contract, and is otherwise working great.
Sorry to say, but the problem about and Empty toner cartridge doesn't have a solution. I had the exact same problem on my Xerox VersaLink C7000 printer. It kept reporting that the "Magenta toner is empty" and refused to print anything. I had 2 service technicians working on the printer on 3 separate occasions. They replaced at least 2 parts (the sensor and drive mechanism plus some other part deeper in the printer). All these service calls helped only for a very short time. After each service, I could print a few more pages. Then the dreaded "Magenta toner is empty" message came back every time. I inserted more than one new toner cartridge, but even a totally new cartridge didn't make any difference. Something seedms to clog the flow of toner.
The service is expensive. The toner is very expensive. After throwing all this money at the problem, I ended up with a hunk of metal that won't print anything and can't be fixed. I also ended up with hundreds of dollars worth of toner that nobody wants. I cannot get even partially re-imbured for any of this expensive toner.
This was a bad experience and an expensive lesson. Xerox printers are unreliable. When they die, they die for good, leaving you with a uselss machine and unredeamable toner. I bought the Xerox printer new. It died after less than 2 years of only light to moderate use. I will not buy a Xerox printer again.
Emilio, you are totally incorrect. The phaser 6500 is a different engine. There may be differences in supplies needed and software reset procedures for some models.
Many times the toner is compacted from storage and needs to be shaken. Try rapping in somewhat gingerly and then shake it. You want to feel the toner powder move.
I would check the xerox support pages since this is not a new device and most issues have good suggestions.
Sad to hear this, as it seems this is the same future I am looking at. A VersaLink C7000 less than two years old. New hi-capacity cartridge (over $300) and it keeps saying empty . . . there has to be a fix for this . . . agree, xerox sucks, not what it used to be . . . buyers beware . . . .
I bought this Phaser 6510 in June 2019 from the Dell website. I'm having the same problem. I changed out the initial Black toner cartridge with a replacemnet cartridge I purchase from Xerox, and my printer will not recognize the new toner cartridge. This will be the last printer I ever purchase from Xerox if I can't get any helpful feedback from this site.
