I have found the issue!  It is a fault with the Xerox software that is installed on the PC. Somehow the bi-directional communications are faulting (with the printer being served by our SBS machine to all the PC clients). It was causing the printer to reboot when the software was trying to re-establish communications with it.

I have removed the SBS served drivers from the PC and just reinstalled with a TCP network printer driver.  Works fine now. Happy days :)

Hi and thanks for replying.

I have plugged the Printer directly into my laptop and it boots fine 'ready to print'.  Obviously it wont print because its not a crossover cable (which I dont have).  I have plugged the printer into another network switch and as soon as I do that it reboots/cycles again,

Hi again, Mike!

What if you bypass everything, and just plug a computer directly to the printer with an ethernet cable, does the problem still occur?

Nothing in between.

Thanks Kimzi - sorry, I have already cleared out the network queue to no avail. There are no jobs outstanding on the PCs either.  Cheers Mike

Re: Phaser 4600 stuck in initializing loop

Hi, Mike!

As the printer works fine without the network cable connected I can only assume that there is a network and/or printer spool issue.

I would try clearing the print queue from all jobs, that includes all the clients if not connected to a server.

A defect/broken print job can result in this behaviour.

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hi - our 4600 goes from 'intializing' to 'warm up', it makes a few noises then reboots back to 'initializing' again.  When I take the network cable out this resolves the issue, but obviously we can't print then as it needs to be a network printer.

I have reset the network settings to default and also disabled SLP but it is still continuing with the cyle issue.

Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.  Mike
