Phaser 6120 Tray 1 Misfeed

My 6120 is almost constantly misfeeding from tray 1 (the only tray installed). The paper is inserted correctly, and I just cleaned the paper feed roller as instructed on the Xerox Service Help page but still the same thing. No paper is trapped/stuck inside. Opening the printer and shutting sometimes works but most often does not and I must guide each page thru as it tries to select the next sheet for printing. When the tray lifts to select the sheet, the paper most often is not caught.

I noticed inside the paper tray the guides for the correct amount of paper to insert. Shouldn't it feed paper if only a few sheets are loaded or must I always keep the amount of paper within the lines indicated? It seems to catch the paper if more paper is loaded; altho it doesn't always seem to matter how much or how few sheets are loaded. This happens no matter if I am printing on letter-sized 24-28# stock or light weight card stock.

I hate to replace my 6120 as it prints beautifully and I have a complete set of new toner cartridges still to install when the existing toner runs out. Any suggestions would be appreciated; as well as opinions if you think it's worth it to have whatever is wrong fixed. Thanks.

Re: Phaser 6120 Tray 1 Misfeed

I know this is a very old message, but I am experiencing a similar mis-feed problem with the paper not getting picked up in Tray 1 (no optional tray 2).  Can anyone instruct me on how to clean or tweak the pick up rollers.  The printer only has 2260 prints on it, so I doubt anything is to warn, but there may be some paper dust causing problems.

Re: Phaser 6120 Tray 1 Misfeed

I never got an answer to my question about the misfeed. My 6120 got flooded in Hurricane Sandy and was destroyed, so I never got the problem resolved. I hope you have a better result. The 6120 created great printouts. I miss mine.

Re: Phaser 6120 Tray 1 Misfeed

You may have lucked out in losing it in a hurricane. I've had mine for December of 2008. It doesn't withstand the test of time like old printer used to.

I've had issues with the document feeder since back in 2010. I even use the good heavy paper they recommend.

The cheap plastic tabs broke on the fold out document holder not once but twice. I have replaced it again. I swear I have been gentle with it, but it broke during the misfeed troubleshooting.

The first time it broke, one of those plastic tabs fell in and destroyed my imaging unit. I had to replace that.

Lets see it gives me the message constantly that a toner is missing. I normally have to remove each toner manually and reinstall them. Pretty annoying.

The icing on the cake is the handle just broke on the hood to fix a misfeed error or as the printer calls it "paper jam tray1"

I can't say I will buy another Xerox. I have recently read reviews on the Canon Multi-Function Color Lasers and they read pretty good. I will probably wait for a good sale.

Good luck on the misery that is the Phaser 6120.

Re: Phaser 6120 Tray 1 Misfeed

I know how you feel. I loved the quality of the Phaser 6120, but the feed problems were chronic in my printer.

After Hurricane Sandy destroyed my Phaser 6120 as well as my HP all-in-one B&W laser, I decided to combine the two into one printer and bought an HP color laser all-in-one. The color quality is not as good as the Xerox, but it's a workhorse and I have not had any misfeeds or other issues.

I would love another Xerox, but I'm not sure the build quality is there anymore.
