Re: Phaser 6125 installation on Windows XP with USB

Hello I_hendriksen,

Here is some information for you to review on being able to print via USB. If you are still having issues after trying these steps, I suggest that you call into our support department for assistance @  1-800-835-6100.

How to connect the USB cable to enable local printing

To install the print driver using the (.exe) or (.zip) driver file with a USB connection to the printer:

NOTE: Power on the computer and the printer with the USB cable connected first to see if Windows  will already have a driver loaded for the printer.

  1. Depending on the type of file that was downloaded (.exe or .zip), perform one of the following options:
    • For .exe files: Double-click on the (.exe) file to open the file and run it.  Make a note of where the files will be extracted to or choose a different location on the computer.
    • For .zip files: Right-click on the file and select [Extract All].  Select a location for the files to be extracted to, make a note of the location, and then click on [Extract].
  2. Open the Control Panel. (Click on the [Start] button, and then click on [Control Panel].)
  3. Depending on the "View By" option, perform one of the following options:
    • Click on [View Devices and Printers] under the Hardware and Sound category.
    • Double-click on [Devices and Printers] (if viewing by icons).

If Windows 7 found the driver for the printer, continue with step 16.

  4. Click on [Add a Printer] at the top of the window.
  5. Click on [Add a Local Printer].
  6. Perform one of the following options:
    • If the USB port that the printer is plugged into is known (for example, USB001, USB002), then select the port from the Use an existing port pull-down menu.
    • If the USB port number is not known, leave the selection as LPT1.
  7. Click on [Next].
  8. Click on the [Have Disk] button. The Install From Disk window will be displayed.
  9. Click on the [Browse] button, and then browse to the location of the folder where the driver files are located. One file will be listed in this folder. Select the file, and then click on the [Open] button to return to the Install From Disk window.
  10. Click on the [OK] button. The Install the Printer Driver window will be displayed.
  11. Click on the appropriate printer model, and then click on [Next].
  12. Confirm the name of the printer, and then click on [Next].
  13. Click on [Finish].
  14. Right-click on the print queue that is created under Printer’s & Faxes, and then select [Remove Device].
  15. Unplug the USB cable from the printer for 10 seconds and then plug the cable back in to allow the Add Hardware Wizard to re-add the printer.

NOTE:  Only continue with step 16 if Windows originally found the print driver and installed it above.

  16. Right-click on the printer’s print queue icon, and then select [Printer Properties]. The print driver Properties window will be displayed.
  17. Click on the [Advanced] tab in the driver properties.
  18. Click on [New Driver]. The Add Printer Wizard screen will be displayed.
  19. Click on [Next].
  20. Click on the [Have Disk] button. The Install From Disk window will be displayed.
  21. Click on the [Browse] button, and then browse to the location of the folder where the driver files are located. One file will be listed in this folder. Select the file, and then click on the [Open] button to return to the Install From Disk window.
  22. Click on the [OK] button. The Install the Printer Driver window will be displayed.
  23. Click on the appropriate printer model, and then click on [Next].
  24. Click on [Finish].
  25. Click on [Apply].
  26. Click on the [OK] button to close the print driver Properties window.

NOTE: For instructions on how to uninstall the print driver, see the Related Content.

Phaser 6125 installation on Windows XP with USB

Product Name: Phaser 6125
Operating System: Other – specify OS in post

I am trying to install the drivers of phaser 6125 on a PC which is running on Windows XP. It is connected with USB. It quickly shows in the taskbar that the printer is recognized, but directly after that it says that there is problem with the device.

I have bought it second hand, so I do not have the original installation CD, only downloaded the XP driver from Xeros support page.

Has anyone same experience of has anyone successfully installed  it?
