Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

To be 100% sure that temperature is the reason I would need to do more tests and verifications, but I feel 99% certain already now.

My largest fear was that this used unit had some hidden defects. Looks OK now though.

I will do more tests on this P6510 but that will be in mid May.

Will post my findings then.

Thanks to all enthusiasts here for sharing and caring. Your tips and feedback are much appreciated.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

I don't know if you're following this thread, but there seems to be some indication that the problem may be related to a low temperature environment.

More details in later posts.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

All very interesting.

I eventually got mine going again, and as long as it’s asleep, rather than ‘off’ altogether, it seems to wake up reliably. I had attributed progress to reinstalling the firmware – but the ‘temperature’ story makes sense as I assume there’s a small amount of heat, even when asleep (consumption is not zero…).

After the first few days of ownership I had decided that it didn’t  like to be turned off, as even at best it would cycle several times (? Warm up???) before finally getting going (maybe from a room at 15 degrees).

It is very possible that when it finally wouldn’t get going at all, the room was just too cold….

I too had looked at the spec and saw the “5 degree upwards’ specification so had assumed that was correct.

One final test before leaving. It works!!! Printed my PDF nicely from the iPhone. Temperature is absolutely the ‘thing’ here.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

I’m afraid I won’t be able to verify it today. The P6510 having the issues is at our summer house.

Outdoor temperature dropped from +17C (Saturday) to -3C (Sunday) so the whole place is kind of cold now.

Will need to go back home and work for a few weeks before I get back here. However, the scenario described is a perfect match with my case. I am very hopeful.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

Is your printer behaving now?

I note that you posted in December, so I wonder if the cause of your problem is similar in any way to what mine appears to be.

I seem to have had some success by increasing the room temperature. More detail in other posts on this thread, and one other user is now investigating along those lines.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

Have you persuaded your printer to behave?

I know it's a while since you posted, but I seem to have had some success by changing the room temperature. More detail in other posts on this thread, and one other user is now investigating along those lines.

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

Interesting…

I bought this (my second P6510) used at an auction for about 200 SEK (€20).

I did the admin stuff, FW upgrade etc, in a warm and nice place. Everything worked fine.

I then moved it onto the floor in a much colder room. The morning after it ‘died’. It is now back into the warmth for verification of this theory.

Thanks for supporting…

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

Have you checked the room temperature where you have the printer?

I started having the problem a few days before starting this thread, when the weather was getting colder, and, cheapskate that I am, I didn't have the heating turned up.

Roll forward to a few weeks back, and, partly out of desperation, I tried pointing a fan heater at the printer (but not so close as to cause localised heating of the side panels). Once the temperature got up to about 14C the printer would start after a few attempts, >16C and it worked first time, every time.

According to the User Guide (p221) the printer is supposed to operate from 5C up, although with caveats about print quality. It says nothing about failing to start at higher temperatures below the lower optimal limit (15C).

Re: Printer stuck in startup loop

I'm finally getting a handle on the issue.
Power supply is fine (see a previous reply to you), but room temperature is a problem. With a room temperature of 12-14C the boot loop problem recurs, but heating the area with a fan heater so the printer is in a local environment of >16C allows it to start, as does when the whole room temperature rises to that value with either central heating or warm weather.
Failure to start while in the 12-14C range (possibly below, but the room never gets that cold while I'm using the printer) should not be an issue according to the Xerox® Phaser® 6510 Printer User Guide (Version 1.4 October 2019), p221, which gives a lower operating temperature of 5C.
