Trouble with Automatic Paper Type Selection and Multiple Pages in ADF

I've noticed that the automatic paper type selection feature doesn't seem to be working as it should. No matter what settings I choose, the printer doesn't seem to recognize the paper type correctly.  I've been experiencing some issues with the ADF. When I load multiple pages into the ADF for scanning or copying, it often ends up grabbing multiple pages at once. I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have to resolve these problems
