Wifi adapter using MAC address of wired port

The printer has a Mac address

The printer has the IP address

So on the router, you see the mac address of the printer, not the adapter.

The config sheet of the printer will also only show the MAC address of the printer, not the adapter, because the adapter doesn't matter to anything with exception to a Cisco switch which won't allow anything to be connected until it has the MAC addresses added, so they put it on the device for those who need to.

I mean it uses the same MAC address as the wired port, not IP address.

Or do you mean that the wireless adapter isn't acting as a wireless client, it is merely acting as a wireless bridge for the wired port?

That would be normal operation, its no different than if you hooked it up via a switch, the printer is what asks for an IP address, a switch (or in this case the adapter) has no need of an IP address.

Hi, I have a Xerox Versalink C405DN printer.

I recently purchased a Xerox Wifi adapter which plugs in the back to provide Wifi connectivity.

The wifi adapter has its own MAC address printed on it which is different to the wired LAN port on the printer.

When I connect the printer by Wifi, the printer uses the MAC address of the wired LAN port. It does not use the wifi adapters own MAC address.

Has anyone else seen this? Is this normal?
