Recently purchase a 6500N to replace a dead HP. Hooked it up via DHCP but assigned it a fixed IP address via the router after the initial DHCP IP assignment. Thought I could simply set up a new standard TCP/IP port pointing to printer and then install the drivers using that port. Wrong.
Tried using the CD install program, but installation reached a dead end when it tried to locate the printer on the home network.
Any ideas what might be causing its invisibility to the Windows 7 machine? Installed same printer on Mac OS10.8 conventionally with no issues. Set up a standard TCP/IP port and then pointed to the Xerox drivers.

Hi cck_6500N,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. Are you able to ping the printer? If so then make sure you are following the solution for adding a printer. If it still fails please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
Thanks for the reply. I am able to ping the printer. I have gone through the process of uninstalling the printer (including drivers) a couple of times and reinstalling, faithfully following the instructions in the link you provided.
I can log into WorkCentre from IE9 on her computer using the IP address of the printer, however the Phaser still will not communicate with the Windows 7 machine when trying to print. I semi-successfully installed it using the Host Name of the printer. I was able to print a test page from her machine but the following day communication was lost again and each job sent to the printer languished in the queue for eternity...until I finally cleared the queue...and tried again unsuccessfully
Interestingly, I work from a Mac and installed it with no issues using the supplied OSX drivers. My wife's machine however is arguably more important...since I am her tech support...and am spending a lot of time trying to figure out why it isn't printing. :)
The temporary host name solution seems untenable since it could go out at any time while I am at my 9 to 5 leaving her high and dry.
Hi cck6500n,
Please take a look at this post although a different model of machine the issues sound similiar. See if the actions he took might help you. If not please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
