I am curious what level of firmware you are on, edjsk. I updated to 65.51.1 and still have the problem with wake up when Wi-Fi is on DHCP. Ethernet does not exhibit the problem. I don't think this is driver related because I am unable to get ping responses from the Wi-Fi address when this problem is happening. I tried a static address on Wi-Fi and that did not help, but I believe that was before I updated to 65.51.1. I am also confused as to why there is supposedly newer firmware (see erikveston's post). 65.51.1 shows the same USB power save setting and I've had that on and it doesn't help.
Dear Erikveston, your solution completely helps and removes my problem. "WorkCenter 6515 never wakes up after sleep mode - Wifi only", who completely describe Kentino at the begin. Very thanks for advice.
gabiene,
wow! didn't realize how fast you got back on this! I never quit searching for ideas and solutions after I posted here, and actually changed something that seems to have my unit working great now---prior to realizing you responded so quick. Here's what I ended up doing/trying:
I came across another forum somewhere where the people were discussing the IP addresses and it got really 'in the weeds', so I figured it wouldn't hurt to just try different settings. I went into the wi-fi settings and then the IPv4 settings and noticed the 'mode' setting was set to 'DHCP with Auto IP' and I switched this to 'Static'. instead. I left the IP address that was originally generated/assigned (basic home network so, I dont anticipate IP address shortages). saved the new setting and viola! the unit still goes to sleep but is always available and ready on the network now. wakes up with no issues for printing or accessing the settings through a browser. I can use the scanning features from the unit display panel and it scans and sends the filese to a network drive too with no connectivity problems.
Whatever this change ultimately does to how this unit responds to the network and requests and all, it now functions exactly as I wanted it to from the start.
p.s. - I tried to upload screen shots below. they dont appear to be showing (?). maybe awaiting approval or something (?).
Connectivity -->wi-fi
wi-fi --> IPv4
IPv4 --> mode --> switched DHCP Auto IP to Static
Hi,
Try below settings for your problem:
Most of the issues with non printing jobs and „Offline” messages are from driver settings.
First check to see if there is no job in the print queue (delete any job if exist).
Check the port to be on TCP/IP and not WSD. MS convert the port to WSD. If it is so, click right on the print driver and click on „Printer Properties”, click on „Ports” tab, click on „Add port”, select „Standard TCP/IP port” , click on „New port” and set an IP and in the next window click „Finish”.
After that click again on ''Ports'' tab click on "Configure port" and change from RAW to LPR, at the Queue name write "lp" and be sure to unchecked "LPR Byte Counting Enable" and "SNMP Status Enabled".
Also do not use Chrome for opening or making settings for CWIS page. It is known that Chrome to have issues with this .

I followed the solution advice and updated the firmware and changed the USB always on setting. Still though, I'm having this same or similar situation. my xerox 6515 is in the sleep or low power mode with power button glowing. I can touch power button or home button and the little screen on the printer lights up... I am able to login via the touchpad screen and view/alter settings no problem. But, from my computer, I cannot access the 6515 via IP address in a google chrome browser window nor will it print. If I completely power off the 6515 by pulling power cord out and plugging back in, the machine boots up (takes a minute or two) and once booted WILL PRINT the documents I had tried sending to it prior. I can also then access it via the chrome browser window. Any additional print jobs will now pass straight through and print without issue.
- afterwards, I tried waiting 15min and trying to print again---no issues. prints fine
- then I tried waiting 30min and tried again---no issues.
- then I went to bed and tried again in the morning and its back to the unresponsive thing again until I pull plug.
- I've also tried running an ethernet cable from the printer to the router and it doesn't change a thing.
What could be the cause of this?
Dear Kentinoo, I have exactly the same problem with same HW and configuration. Did you solve it? because I switch on the Keep USB ports awake button, but did not solve that problem. Thx for response.
I have a WorkCenter 6515 but when I give it the bin file linked in this solution it says its not for the 6515.... I feel like this is definitely what's going on.
I bet it isn't actually up to date firmware, just the latest General Release firmware (65.50.61)
Install this one which is version 65.54.21 using this tool.
Then, in the power saver you should get this option which will stop the sleep issue when enabled
What happens is, the WiFi option is attached on the USB bus, and by default, the USB port shuts down to save power, so it (the wifi adaptor) can't wake the printer back up (Because it isn't actually there anymore)
Hi,
My printer is brand new, I've done a setup to enable Wifi only, tried the connectivity by scanning a document and send it by mail, everything went fine. The firmware is up to date.
As expected, when I don't use it, it turns into sleep mode. The problem is I have no way to wake it up :
The only way to use it again it to unplug the power (reboot the hard way....) and I know for sure it's not the best way. Altough I didn't bought a printer to partially do the job ;)
I'm very disappointed. I don't have any access to the printer internal logs so I can't check by myself what's happening (is it the network ? Wifi only seems not to be straightforward to setup so I wonder if it's native...)
Do you please have any clue on what's happening ?
Thank you :)
