If you're in the UK, call 0370 900 5501 and they should be able to schedule an engineer visit. They need to swap out part no. 105K31091 (LVPS PWBA 220V (SCC)), replacing it with the previous version of that part that doesn't have coil whine.
You first have to register the printer with Xerox before you can arrange an engineer visit. You can try to register online. That didn't work for me and it took several emails with the vendor and Xerox to get it registered so I could then arrange the engineer visit.
The engineer switched out LVPS PWBA for the previous part that was less energy efficient in standby but has no coil whine. After it was fixed all is good.
If you have driver problems (programs crashing when selecting the printer), then uninstall all drivers and software, then reinstall with the not recommended options (previous gen), e.g. choose Type 3 print system instead of type 4 print system. Same with PCL.
Hello CheryIO-Xerox,
is it really the accepted solution to either shut it down, delay the problem or freeze the machine to avoid the noise?
I would have hoped to see an update to the firmware that would allow to completely disable it from going into sleep mode. I would have accepted that as a bad but working solution to the problem.
I will return the WorkCentre as it is unusable for me in its current state and I honestly have lost faith in Xerox providing a good solution.
Greetings
Tobias
Hi All,
As reported earlier this issue was escalated and here is the link to the response to the noise issue posted (May 21, 2020). Noise Article
Hi,
I've now received a replacement from the supplier and if anything, this is worse than the last one. There is severe coil whine when in standby and it reduces only a bit when in other power modes. It is audible even when printing. My favourite power mode is with the cable unplugged. For what it's worth, here are the details.
Serial number: 3740228446
system: 65.50.61
Hello Xerox, you can expect to see this printer again soon: either through your returns channels or thrown out the back of a van at high speed into your parking lot.
It's very clear that nobody on this thread, or the multiple similar ones have had any kind of useful response from Xerox and I don't expect things to be any different for me. Good luck with your printer business.
I also have the same issue, the first printer had the issue from start, returned for replacement due to the noise, and the replacement is exactly the same. Deciding if should return that also and go with a different manufacture, shame as do like the printer and print quality. Xerox support seems terrible, after wasting 20+ mins on phone Xerox told me someone would call me back to arrange an engineer visit, nobody called back.
Found another thread here also detailing the issue - "Insupportable high-pitch noise in WC 6515DNI sleep mode"
@CherylO-Xerox any further update or should we all just return??

Greetings,

We are currently researching this issue, could you please let us know which system software or firmware version you have loaded on your machine?
I've just bought the 6515 WorkCentre and have the same issue, it's the switched mode PSU making a noise when there's no load, I've experienced the same issue with laptop PSU's and had them replaced. I'd like to know how many of these printers have this issue, as I don't want to get a replacement and find it's exactly the same.
See your other post.
