WorkCentre 7525 Blank Screen w/ only Energy Saver Button Lit Up

Product Name: WorkCentre 7525/7530/7535/7545/7556
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I have a xerox 7525 that has worked like a champ for a few years now.  Unfortunately, when I turn it on, it does not give me the green start-up screen, rather it makes a click (everything flashes for less than a full second) and goes straight to a black screen where the energy saver button is lit, and stays lit and the only other thing occurring is a single fan from the power board running.

Here is a picture:

IMG_4139.jpgenergy button only lit, blank screen

Also complicating things are the facts (1) I do not have an SD card for it (it is flashing a green light and a different green and red light stay enumerated; (2) the LED on the side is not showing any error code or anything at all; and (3) this could have occurred during an attempted software update, but my co-worker is not entirely sure but mentioned he was starting to attempt to update the firmware via the machine's IP address and then turned it off because it became non-responsive but believes it was non-responsive for a very long time first and that nothing was occurring via the potential update.

Here is a video of the back and side of the machine:

As a small business owner who has had a tough yeat, I do not have the money to replace this thing, nor do I have the money in the budget for a costly repair.  I'm pretty tech savy and would very much like to tackle this thing on my own, if possible.

Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this or who has any ideas whatsoever.  Two other things, (1) I did test the backup battery and the volts were good on it, so I don't think its the backup battery, and (2) I did try an altboot, but I used a usb with an led on it, and it does nothing and I tried it on the front and back of the machine (along with folder names of "altboot", "AltBoot", and "ALTBOOT", along with FORCED_UPGRADE txt file without the txt name in the file).

Thanks again to anyone with any ideas!

Hi,

If you left the machine for years without using it, I am sure the yellow battery is drained and must be replaced.

Try to remove and reinstall memories and hdd from that board.

What is writing on a little 7 segment?

Re: WorkCentre 7525 Blank Screen w/ only Energy Saver Button Lit Up

Thanks so much for the reply.  My current LED on the side of the machine starts up now and only displays a number 2.  The service manual says a number 2 error code is a "system error code."  You were correct to say to remove the system memory modules several times and power on and off, but that did not resolve my issue.  I did the same with the HDD too, because, well, why not.  The manual then says if the system persists to replace the "system memory module" and if that didn't cure it, to replace the "SBC PWBA."  Honestly, I'm not sure what the manual means by system memory module or SBC PWBA (but I think this one is the entire motherboard).

I too, thought it may be the yellow back up battery. However, per a link here: https://www.partsdrop.com/index.php/tech-info-center/instructions-tech-info/tech-tips/7525-memory-ba... it says if the backup battery gives off more than 2.8 volts, the battery should work.  My voltage meter read it was giving off somewhere around 3.1-3.2 volts.  I would love for this to be the problem, because that seems like a cheap part, but I just don't know anymore and I don't want to buy parts without the ability to return them if they do not do the job.

Can someone tell me what the system memory module, is that the entire small card the yellow backup battery is on, or is that the RAM?  I think the motherboard is good, because I can tell the hdd is working and the fan attached to the motherboard works (although its the only fan that does so).  So, I'm hoping it is something easy.

I guess, I'd appreciate any more insight anyone can provide me, because I really loved this machine as it fit my needs perfectly and I can't afford to replace or likely have a pro repair it.

Also, recall, I believe this error may have occurred during a faulty software upgrade if that makes anymore sense to anyone.  It appears there is room for a micro sd card (it def will not fit a normal sd card bc I tried) on the side and I have seen people talk about being able to insert an sd card during these types of issues and altbooting the machine.  I have had zero success with any altboot, and I have tried several times and believe I am trying to do the altboot correclty per other forum posts and the service manual.

Thanks again to anyone who even read this novel I just wrote and to anyone who may be able to offer some advice.  Sorry if I write to much or am a pain in the rear, I spent days trying things on my own before I resorted to trying these forums.

Jason

Re: WorkCentre 7525 Blank Screen w/ only Energy Saver Button Lit Up

Hi again,

Believe me, 7525 did not have an SD card (just 72xx, 78xx, 3655, 6655, etc.).

Error 2 on 7 segment display it means as you said it could be from the system memory which is not that one with the battery (that one is software module). And the battery looks good. The system memory is that one in the upper position next to the HDD and have part number 833W39035.

I remember I've had one machine with the symptoms like yours also with 2 on display, but I just removed and reconnect the memory and the machine was powered up without any issue.

Re: WorkCentre 7525 Blank Screen w/ only Energy Saver Button Lit Up

Well, I tried reseating the memory with the power off and when I turned the power back on I no longer received the LED # 2 on the side of the machine again and continued to have a blank screen and energy saver button enumerated.  Also, the other board to the right of the board that can be pulled out with the memory on it, used to have red LEDs when the number 2 was on the LED.  But now, the red LEDs are no longer lit up.

Here is a video of what the main board looks like now:

You can see there is a flashing light.

Also, the reason I thought there may be a micro sd card slot is because of this on the side of the machine:

When powered on, the red and green light stay enumerated.

So... any other ideas?  Think its a bad Ram? I'm feeling less than optmistic I can save this machine now.

I couldn't swap the ram memory out with different ram memory could I?  If so, I'm sure I have some aroung.

Excepting my experience, I searched and I found some technical bulletins with the same behaviour like yours. It looks the system memory is bad. And the memory is different from anything else. I don't think you will find something the same.

Thanks so much for your assistance.  I'll order the memory and go from there.  Thanks again!

That orange slot is for SIM card that is used just at the machine instalation. That SIM contains informations about machine speed and region.
