We have a Xerox 4510 printer configured on our 1GB network. Printer has 256MB of RAM and nearly all the space on its 40GB hard drive is free. We use Print Shop Mail to create merged #10 Comm envelopes - when printed directly from Print Shop Mail to the Xerox 4510 the speed is 10 envelopes/minute - way too slow. When we convert the job to a PDF (size of PDF is about 440KB) and print at 600 dpi (configured in printer as well as print driver), the speed increase to 22 ppm. Can anyone tell me if we should be able to print faster? (We generally do about 1,000 envelopes at a time, and any way we can increase the speed would be very welcome). The machine is speced to print at 45 ppm, but specs don't speificy if this is for envelopes. Have we hit a threshold on printing speed for envelopes or is there a configuration setting we are overlooking or might increase of RAM significantly improve performance of file of this type and size. Thanks.
If the printer is a Phaser it should be able to handle a print speed of 45 ppm for Letter sized paper or 43 ppm for A4 sized paper. The handling time is of course longer depending on the size of the document.
Have a look at THIS
And also try changing the protocol in properties -> ports -> configure port: if its RAW change to LPR, and vice verse and see if that helps.
Also you can have a look at the feature "Print as image" in Adobe Reader, if thats checked that could be a reason for the slow printing.
