Hi Brian,
I'm not sure what spec you found for the Phaser 6250, but I can assure you that it cannot handle 35 inch long paper. Anyway, you are asking about adding a custom paper size for tray 1 on your control panel. Unfortunately, the Phaser 6250 is not going to be able to do that exactly, but it can come close. What I mean by that is the printer should retain that size as the 'last' size used. When the tray is empty and more media is loaded, the tray prompt should ask whether you want to use the current setup or change it. If you select 'use current setup' it should retain that custom size because it was the last size programmed for the tray. So, as long as you don't take the 15.5 inch paper out of tray 1 and replace it with something else, you shouldn't have to keep hitting the arrows.

Well the specifications for the Phaser 6250 lists:
Tray 1 (MPT): (deleted for the sake of spam).....and Custom*
[size range: 3.5–8.5 in. (89–216mm) x 5.5–35.45 in. (140–900 mm)].
*not available on B configuration
This printer is a 6250 DP, so it can handle a page up to 35.45 in. (y axis) for a custom page size. The front panel (and software interface provided by the Xerox driver) allows for a 15.50 inch page to be setup as the custom page size. The Knowledge Base article you linked to explains how to setup the software interface and save a custom page size in the computer, but I had already done that. What I was wanting to know is how to setup the front panel on the Phaser 6250. Right now (and new out of the box), it shows a variety of paper sizes (all standard sizes) on a list on the front panel when I insert a sheet of media into Tray1 (assuming the tray is empty when I insert media). When I insert the sheet into Tray1 the list comes up and I have to select a paper type ( I select Thick Card Stock), then it prompts to select a paper size (THIS IS WHERE I WANT LASERPLATE TO BE LISTED). Currently I have to select "Custom" and use the up and down arrows to change the paper size to 8.5in x 15.5in. If you know any way to add a new paper size to this listing on the front panel it would save me a ton of time. (Some days I have to do this 20 times in a day).
Thanks for all your help,
Brian
Hi Brian,
Here is a link to the Phaser 6250 Knowledge Base where you can find an article that shows you how to create a custom size in your machine. It's very simple and the instructions are step-by-step with a variety of OSs to choose from. Keep in mind that the Phaser 6250 does not support paper sizes over 14 inches. For your 15.5 inch paper, you may not be able to save the custom size because of that limitation.
John
I understand that the page size he was wanting to setup for selection on the front panel had an English measurement equivilent, but I am trying to setup a Phaser 6250 (one of the older printers) and all we use this printer for is making laser-plates. (used for printing presses, this is the oldest and slowest printer, so instead of retiring the unit we just gave it an easy job) The plates are 8.5 inches wide and 15.5 inches tall, and it is very annoying to keep having to push that little rubber "up arrow" button on the front panel a thousand times until it gets to the correct size. I have tried every driver i can find, reinstalled firmware hoping that a newer fw would have a few new options on the front panel interface, but no luck. If you could tell me how to add paper sizes to the list that shows up on the front panel when you insert media into Tray1 (MPT Tray), well, you would be my hero. Otherwise, all my complaining to co-workers about this Xerox has been justified!! j/k, it's still working and it's ancient, figure that's good enough.
Thanks a million,
Brian
You're welcome! Glad it worked :smileyhappy:
yes it works, thanks!!!
I think I understand what you are asking now. The 330mm x 480mm is actually a standard size paper. In inches that is 13 x 19 so when you put that paper in tray 5 and the touch screen asks you to confirm the paper type and size, you can select glossy as you already do and then look for 13 x 19 size and select that size. This should solve your issue. Please let me know if this does not help.
I have the EFI, i can't use you instruction.
I can select the custom paper size in the program, but I would like choose it directly on the printer.
Thanks!
You can add that custom size using the instructions that I pasted into my previous post. Have you tried that and did it work?
Hello John,
my 550 can print the size 480mm. Now i'm printing on this format.
Thanks for your help, but probabily I don't explain well what I need.
Your instruction is ok.
When i put the paper on the n. 5 tray, the printer ask me on the touch panel the paper size and the type paper. I select glossy, then and manually 330x480 mm. I would like to save this format, to call again in the future, like I can do with SRA3.
Thanks a lot for all
