I actually do think the same firmware is used as extra features is unlocked by entering a pin code, though I'm not 100% sure.
There is a scanning and email kit for the copier model too, which means it should be possible.
I suggest you contact Xerox about this, if you can get a hold of second level support or even an engineer that can answer these questions.

Dang! Thanks Kimzi for the quick reply. The copier is at the clients site already. Do you know if there is a way we can upgrade it? Maybe purchase a network card and update the firmware? Or if the NIC is the same we have many of these WorkCentre's here in our warehouse that do have the NIC built in.

We are trying to troubleshoot a machine, it's a 5655. From what the person is telling me is that it is a copy only version. I told him to factory reset the item and he said it will not help as it only copies. He said there are three versions;
-One that only Copies
-One that Copies/Prints
-One that Copies/Prints/Scanns.
From the look of the printer it has a ADF & scanner on it. Is there a version with the scanner on it but it does not scan? Also, do they all have ethernet? He said that his does not have a port? Does Xerox make the same model 5655 in three versions? I tried looking around a few places here but the information is confusing.
