Re: Xerox Smart Start

Hello there,

I asked someone with more experience on this issue and this is their recommendation:

Note that Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft or Xerox and the latest version of the Smart Start Installer is not guaranteed to work on that OS. Following Microsoft’s direction, the user should upgrade to a supported OS - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/end-of-support?r=1

Referring to Windows 7.... Everyone should check the device specification in the documentation or on the Xerox website and look for information about os support, i.e. the Xerox VERSALINK C7100 series supports Windows 7, so in this case there sould be any problems and no one cannot say anything that something is not guaranteed or is not working.

GENERAL recomedation about not using not supported OS without defining context is missleading - if device manufacturer (in this case Xerox) states/declare that his device is compatibile with specific OS than customer should be able to use it.

If IT security is taken into account, using unsupported operating systems is a bad idea and cannot be recommended. But this recomendation is in the context of IT SECURITY (computer programs have secuirty leaks, bugs, usually covered by updates avaibable only for latest releases/versions for suppoerted os's) and not in the context of using of product.

Sorry for this long reply but many companies (also by their support) do everything to not take responsibilty simultaneously taking only profits after selling the product so is the best to explain everything as possible to supports the users.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

I get what you're saying but there is no "However" with this problem so many of us are having. Your response is not helpful with the problem we are having.

Xerox told us to install this program to use the model of printers we got then they have been too slow to fix a problem they created with their software. If you read the thread about this problem, you'll see that many many people tried to get help from their customer support & was met with no actual support, with many of us being refused assistance. It's as simple as that.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

However, it is important to note that printer software installations can vary depending on the brand and model of the printer. Xerox Smart Start may require additional software or drivers that need to be installed to ensure that the printer works correctly with your computer.

While it's unfortunate that you have had a negative experience with Xerox Smart Start, it's important to remember that every company has its strengths and weaknesses. If you continue to have issues with the software installation, you may want to reach out to Xerox customer support for assistance or consider alternative printer brands that may better suit your needs.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

All my computers already are up to date on everything. It's ridiculous we have to jump through hoops to install printer software, especially with how long this problem has been going on.  I will never recommend Xerox to anyone.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

Thank you mat_ole for the replay, now is "working" ( the printing part not the scanning part - I'm doing all of this via network), this after I reinstalled Windows ( I had to do that anyway ). Probably the issue with scanning is because of the things you have mentioned but because I allready have 3 PC with this software on the same network and on one of them this function is working, I'm not bothered by this inconvinience yet. Thank you againe fot the INFO is going to be helpfull for someone else.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

Personally I had similar problem with Xerox Smart Start 1.8.10.0 (for Xerox Versalink C7120) on clean installation of Windows 7 Home Premium - I wasn't be able to install Xerox Smart Start. In my case I installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 and that helped!

Here are other solutions that might help:

1. Install Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages. Note that if you have 64 bit Operating System you should install both versions - for x86 (32 bit) and x64 (64 bit) architectures. Also according to my knowledge there are multiple versions of VC++ redistributable and they are not backward compatibile so it is the best solution to install all of them starting i.e from Visual C++ 2005. You can find them on websites: microsoft download center and/or microsoft Technical documentation - search for Microsoft Visual C++ YYYY Redistributable (where YYYY means year i.e. 2005), vcredist_x86.exe . VC++ redist packages/libraries are usually named vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe (sometimes followed by year i.e. vcredist2005_x86.exe).

2. Install all updates for your operating system.

I hope this help someone.

Re: Xerox Smart Start

The version 1.6.28.0 is still not working, at least not for me... I have uninstalled the driver and the software from the pc, after the restart I have downloaded the version mention above and is not installing because it freezes after I pick the type of installation ( Fast /  Advance). So what can I do?

Re: Xerox Smart Start

Hello,

We are aware of an issue with the Xerox Smart Start driver.  We have replaced the Smart Start version 1.7.71.0 with the version 1.6.28.0 until a fix is in place.

Thanks,

Re: Xerox Smart Start

If the SmartStart program doesn't install on your machine [it seems about 50% or more of computers will not install it], do to Xerox's website and manually download the print driver then tell windows "have disk" and get it to use the one you download.  That is what Xerox Software support told me to do.

FYI: I have found the PCL6 driver for our AltaLink C8070 prints with too much pink and the PS driver does better.
