Re: Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

Hi ryand59esd,
Thank you for using the Xerox forum.

We all probably realize that the content on a printed page can vary greatly.

A simple mail note would use much less toner per page than a detailed document with images, logos etc.

Each printer has a toner yield expectation but that is with a specific toner area coverage.

In checking your printer model information linked here you will be able to view that there are expected different specifications for yeild at ?% coverage.

I have included the text from that page with links below.
1 Average standard pages. Declared Yield in accordance with ISO/IEC 19752. Yield will vary based on image, area coverage and print mode. Read our Consumable yields guide (PDF) and ISO Test Reports for more information.

If you believe that your printer is not working as intended you may consider contacting our specific product support experts at the following link: Fast Track to the Expert

Re: Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

I've been down this road before...

Brand new 3220 with included cartidge gave "toner exhausted" error after 1-2 weeks of mild use.

Tried a new cartridge and the error would not clear.  Bought a replacment printer while dealing with Xerox on warranty and it too ran 1-2 weeks and is now reporting "toner low".

Methinks there is a bug somewhere in the hardware or firmware...

Has any one else see this behavior?

Re: Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

My apologies andreja_, I did not know that you were a technician.  The initial toner carts do not have a CRUM chip so it is possible that the machine is not recognizing the toner and therefore is declaring that it is completely empty. The first suggestion is to purchase your first toner cart and install it.  If the printer works then you are all set to go.  If it fails with a newly purchased toner cart, then we'll have to troubleshoot more.  Please post back and let us know whether a brand new cartridge gets you up and running again.

Re: Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

Hello John,

As I said this is a brand new printer, so i havent used it at all. I have installed the toner, turned the printer on and got the error "Toner Exhausted". When I press the button to start copy, I get another error "Unavailable at this time". I have shaked the toner before instalation. At this time I don't have any spare toner cartridge. Btw I am a printer technician, but I have never came across this kind of error.

Thank you in advance.

Re: Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

Hello andreja_,

Before you installed the initial toner cartridge, did you gently shake it to loosen up the toner particles?  During the shipping process, the toner can become compacted and by gently shaking it you can break up the toner so that it can be carried to the imaging area. This is not uncommon and gently shaking the toner cartridges should be done all of the time before installing a new one and with any machine.

The only other idea that I have is to ask you how many prints you got out of that cartridge?  There aren't very many, it's basically used to get you from installation of the machine to when your first order of toner arrives.  Your first order of toner should be when you purchase the machine.  By the time the machine gets delivered and installed, the first toner order should arrive about the same time or soon after.  If you have a new toner cartridge available, try it out and see if everything works.  If it does, you're all set.  If not, please let us know.

Xerox WC 3220 Initial Toner Problem

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hi,

I have brand new WC 3220. When i installed the initial toner i got error "Toner Exhausted". I updated the firmware and the problem still persist. I've printed information report and under toner remaning there is 0%.

So my question is, is the problem in the toner sensor? Can i reset the printers software so it can recognise the toner?

Thank you in advance.
