I have a problem with WorkCentre 3215 and toner density. I use this device to print on paper which I use for PCB making. It's usually a preprinted paper from a magazine, but there is difference in print on a regular paper. If I put a print in front of a light I can saw, that there are areas with just a little amount of toner and all in all the toner density is very small and that's not good for PCB making. I found that there is toner density settings but it doesn't work at all.
1. Changing toner density setting trough web interface.
-Changing the value from 0 to 10 has no visual effect (checked on print).
-I also reopened the web interface to check, that the value was saved, and that's OK.
2. Changing toner density directly on machine.
-There is no relation between toner density setting through web interface or directly on a machine.
-If the web interface has value 10 there is still value 0 on the machine.
-If I change value on machine, (saved it with OK button and then exit with return) there is no change if I open the settings again there is again value 0.
How can I solve this problem?
Thank you very much for help and happy new year.
Thank you for using the forum.
Some other things to consider. You will get different results depending on the type of paper you print on. Glossy paper (magazine type paper) would look very different than plain paper when printed. It is not recommend to use glossy paper with this printer since this is a small office printer designed for pretty much PDFs and Word documents. A color graphics printer would be better equipped to print on glossy paper like for a magazine.
It was tested on our WC3215 and when the Print Destiny was changed there was a visible difference with the copies. Also with printing there are driver settings that can also darken or lighting the image on the page. What was also noticed when testing was that once you change the print Density when you go back in to look at the setting on the front control panel the screen shows 0, but that is the default thinking you are there to change the settings. As long as you do not hit save the setting will not be at 0, but keep whatever setting you had previously.
If you have a warranty or contact on the device you may want to contact us via phone at 1-800-821-2797 for assistance in understanding why different types of media would give different results when printing or copying.
"If it is not changing at the machine it must be a firmware issue. Try updating it from here."
I downloaded the firmware from the link you gave me and installed it but there is no difference.
"Also with printing there are driver settings that can also darken or lighting the image on the page."
For all of the test I used setting on the following image.
"As long as you do not hit save the setting will not be at 0, but keep whatever setting you had previously."
I always pressed the OK button and there was SAVED feedback on the LCD.
There is no difference between toner density setting 0 and 10 on the same classic paper not magazine one. If I go to toner density menu on machine there is always 0 value regardless the setting on web interface or prevoious saved setting on machine.
I can do a macro shot with backlight if you dont believe me.
So there are two pictures of the same size letter (48 bold). One is print with toner density 0 and one +10 (trough web interface). Print settings are as above. Paper is classic white one. There are some macro prelens and lighting effect but it does not matter. All two pictures where shot at the same manual setting and the same lighting. I don't se much of a difference there.
Some time ago I used Xerox 3140 which has no direct density settings. When I disabled toner save mode and other setting the print was very good. You can not se trough toner on the paper in front of light. You can even feel the toner under the finger tip. So I know what a good dense print is and from a basic printer the same brand.
Any solutions? Meanwhile I bought the toner for my Phaser 3140 an it works as it should. You can fell the toner under the fingertips and there is difference in print if you change the settings.
