We are having the same problem...
We are currently switching between 2nd BTR's. We use one 2nd BTR for coated paper and another one for uncoated paper. For coated paper we're using Xerox Colour Impressions Silk and the 2nd BTR only lasts for about 10K impressions. Coated paper is too sensitive for the 2nd BTR roller. The 2nd BTR roller is made of soft rubber/plastic and appears to be pretty weak/fragile as lines/marks appear on the roller after a few uses. Other printers usually don't have problems like this. Fx. Xerox C75. They use softer 2nd BTR rollers that don't get damaged like the ones on the Versant series.
This states that the Versant printers have a huge production fault with 2nd BTR's. Because they basically can't print on coated paper. Xerox must produce a new version of the 2nd BTR's because the Versant machines clearly aren't working as they should be.
This helps a bit but does not fix the issue completely
On our Versant 180 in the UK, we enable skip pitch mode using NVM 740 492 - 0 is off, 1 is on. Think our tech had to make some changes elsewhere to make this setting available to us, so you'll need to get your tech to take a look if it doesn't work.
Help! need more info on Skip Mode. replacing the 2nd btr not working for us. Still having to inturrupt large runs and run other jobs, but the tech doen't know anything about skip mode.... Willing to try anyting.

New nvm update increased the life of 2nd btr. Additionally I heard that new 2nd btr will be available soon.
I heard that 3 years ago - still waiting. We had some nvm set a few weeks ago, but it hasn't really helped. I heard there is supposed to be a new cleaning blade coming to help with this issue.
The only current solution for us is to get the Xerox tech to fit a new 2nd BTR every 1-2 months.
I don't understand why it is even worse on our V180 than it was on our old V80!
Has anyone come up with a actual solution for this issue?
