Is there a way to configure the printer so that it does not automatically access drawer 3 when drawer 2 is empty?
yes , you can configure auto tray setyp on the setup of the machine
or print to a specific tray instead of auto
or define each tray with a different type of media, not just plain
I am having the same problem. Were you able to figure it out?
There is no option to set the size for tray 2 or 3 which would eliminate this problem. We have tray 2 as letter and tray 3 as legal. It's a huge pain when the letter runs out and it automatically pulls to legal.
Has anyone else been able to come up with a solution??
Sincerely.
There are two settings you want to change. Connect to the machine's built in web page by typing the IP address of the device into your web browser.
Once connected to the web page, click on the "Properties" tab on the top of the page. Then under the "General" folder on the left hand side select "Printer Defaults".
Under the "Print Mode Settings" section (towards the bottom of the page) set "Tray Chaining" to "Off" and "Auto Continue" to "Off". Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
At this point it should not automatically switch to another tray that contains a different size/type of media. However, it will only hold the job for a limited period of time and then will flush the rest of the job. If you aren't paying attention when it runs out of paper, you may need to re-send your job.
Hope this helps.
