Re: 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically

I ended up returning it to the store.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible to do what I wanted which is crazy because all the other printers I've owned even a Laserjet 4 had that capability.

I also didn't like the web interface it was very very basic.  Almost all the settings had to be configured at the printer display.  It would be a nightmare if this printer was used at a remote site.

I have a 6128mfp and the web interface is similar but it does allow you to change most of the printer settings unlike the 6180.

Re: 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically

I have tray 1 and tray 2 set to plain.  Tray 1 only has auto size or custom and it's set to auto.  Tray 2 is set to letter.  I feel like I tried every combination of settings and can't get it working.  It just doesn't seem possible with this printer.  I've dealt with many laser printers and I've always set them up to automatically use paper from the manual paper tray first and if it's empty to print from the normal tray 2.  This is the first time I found a printer that I couldn't get to work that way.

Re: 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically

For other machines to get auto tray working , the paper specified in the trays should be the same..

for example , A4 , plain , white...

But i dont know if manuel feeds are working for auto trays...

Re: 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically

The "Tray Switching" setting doesn't seem to do anything.  When paper tray is set to auto select it always seems to print from tray 2 even when paper is in tray 1.  If I change that setting to print to tray 1 then it will give an error if tray 1 is empty and wait for me to put paper in.  I want it to print to tray 2 if tray 1 is empty.  This shouldn't be this difficult.  I've wasted paper and toner trying to get this working.

Re: 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically

I contacted Xerox support via email and they had me try a few things but still couldn't get it working.  I was told to call support and ask for Tier 2.  I haven't had time to do that yet.  This shouldn't be that difficult.  Does anyone have an idea?

How do you make the 6180mfp print to tray 1 automatically if there is paper in the tray and if it's empty then it should print to tray 2?
