7120 Send from Folder Problem - Firmware issue?

Hi,

I am a new user of the Xerox WC 7120 (without the optional scan or fax kits), after upgrading from the Phaser 8550 which I used for 5 years.

 

My 7120 was supplied with the latest firmware version 71.13.41 and when I started to use it, I soon discovered a problem with the "Send from Folder" feature. After selecting "Send from Folder", one of the folders and then selecting a file (scanned or printed, made no difference), the system would freeze after clicking on the Print button on the screen. The touch screen would not react to anything, the Home button would return you to the start screen, however. I could repeat this as often as I wanted, it always stopped working when I clicked on that "Print" field on the screen.

 

I called technical support and a Xerox engineer came the following day. He looked at it and then decided to downgrade my firmware to 71.3.1. This did get the "Print from Folder" function working again, but I then found (after the engineer had left), that I could no longer print Letter sized documents on DIN A4 paper (worked fine with latest software). The printer just refused to print on any similar sized paper with no possibilty to override and print anyway. 

 

So the questions are:

 

  1. What are the differences between 71.3.1 and 71.13.41 as the numbers suggest a major difference between the two?
  2. Has anyone else seen my "Print from folder" problem and found a solution with the latest firmware?

 

 

I am inclined to update to the latest version again, but if the "Print from Folder" problem returns, and cannot be solved, I will be back to the same position as before. As I do not have a copy of the older fireware file, I would be unable to downgrade again without calling in the engineer again.

 

So I hope somebody here (perhaps some well informed Xerox engineer even) will be able to help me find the best solution, preferably with the latest firmware.

 

I am technically quite adept and have no problem updating the firmware file myself, etc.

Hello grayfield,

 

Here is a way to find out if your machine is set up to substitute A4 for Letter size and vice versa.

 

To set memory for Print Service Settings:

1. At the printer control panel, press the Machine Status button, then touch the Tools tab.
2. Touch System Settings > Print Service Settings > Other Settings.

Substitute Tray: Specify what happens when the printer runs out of a specific size paper:

 • Display Message
 • Use Larger Size
 • Use Closest Size
 • Select Tray 5

I believe that you are looking for the "Use Closest Size" setting.

I have since solved the problem by reinstalling the latest firmware. The "Send from Folder" and the Letter/A4 problem has now been solved.

 

If anyone else runs into this problem, I suggest simply reinstalling the latest firmware.
