I have the same problem on two different systems running the 2d release of 10.6.8. The problem was NOT there under 10.6.7 before upgrading. I am seeing this printing to several Phaser 8550 printers. I tried upgrading to the new 2.0.9 drivers, that did NOT fix the problem.
Not much help but I had the same problem with a customer running an Apple laptop with Mac OS 10, IIRC.
Never was able to get rid of it after reloading Apple drivers and updating the machine software.
Put the machine in a different class room in a school and that teacher has never had a problem with it.
It is on the same network just the next room over.
This is an Apple OS bug, more specifically and issue with the verison of CUPS that is used in OS 10.5.x and 10.6.x. Some of the error messages were fixed in a combofix released by apple for 10.6.8 but the issue appears to be fully resolved in 10.7.3 and up.
