One of our departments needs to always print two-sided documents from Adobe Reader and one-sided documents from MS Word. Is there a way to make the printer/driver "application aware"?
We have tried setting up different queues but the settings doesn't stick with the application. They print a lot so changing the options manually is not an option.
I have also tried the Xerox Print Driver Configuration Tool, but since all printers are the same driver/model I can't specify a specific print queue. (I think that would solve the problem)
We are using ColorQubes and Global Print Driver PS.
yes, there is a setting in the driver to save templates from specific programs
when you print from word example, open up the driver, then left below, you can click on
save this setting as word template
Install the same driver, on the same port 2 times and change only the name. Do it as :
Colorqube MS Office
Colorqube Adobe Reader
Then set the Printing preferences for the Office driver as Simplex and the Adobe one as Duplex. Choose the one for the app you are in.

But of course both rely on doing some work on the client side, and rely on the user not mucking about with settings later.
The printer itself cannot change an incoming job dependant on the application because it has no idea what application sent it, all the printer sees is PCL or PS code, not the application that the driver generated the code from.
I have also tried that (and maybe I should have posted it as a problem) and the result I get is that when I save the settings they don't stick and I get printing defaults form other programs then the one I'm using.
This example is from MS Word, but I get to save it as MS Visio Defaults.
I have done some investigation in this and it seams that the first application I start after a reboot "owns" the "Save as X defaults" and is shown in every application. If this could be solved, that would solve my problem. Any ideas?
