I'll update when finished. Thanks again.
Uninstalling the existing printer driver is just a minor first step and not complicated. Click on printer icon in settings, which opens a window, in the left pane of which you will see the name of the printer. Highlight it and click the "-" (minus) button at the bottom of the pane, then confirm you want to remove it. The name of the printer will disappear from the left pane. Thats it.
Now you're ready for the main task, which is to download and install the firmware update, following each step of the instructions pasted into the last reply. Its not as daunting a procedure as it appears to be when first reading through. Just take it one step at a time.
Many thanks for this. The printer shows up in system preferences but I cannot find anything in the applications folder to uninstall. I fear simply removing the printer will not be sufficient?
You need a firmware update. I followed the instructions from Laurent Earth and then a.tamazov, back in Dec. (my ongoing thanks to them!) Attempting to repaste those instructions below. At this point you might have to copy and paste the links into your browser. Be sure to uninstall prior B215 software. If no success, call tech support and ask for the firmware update to this specific printer--and insist that it exists to be found, directing them to this forum if necessary to prove the point. That's because my experience with customer support on the phone was that they didn't know about the firmware update, and would only offer the stock advice to reinstall the software.

Hello,
it looks like I managed to solve this issue:
1. Download the latest firmware (https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/xerox-b215-multifunction-printer/content/153656?language... This link was sent to me from Xerox support;
2. Install it (https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/xerox-b215-multifunction-printer/content/145466);
3. Reset OS X printing system (https://support.apple.com/en-za/guide/mac-help/mh14001/mac);
4. Install the printer driver (https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/xerox-b215-multifunction-printer/downloads?platform=macO...
5. Add the printer by explicitly specifying the driver: click "+" in the printer control panel (image 1) / select Xerox B215 (image 2) / at the bottom, in the dropdown "Use:", select "Select software ..." (image 2) / and in the window that opens, select "Xerox B215 Multifunction Printer" (image 3) / Press "Ok" / Press "Add";
6. Done!
Some of these links do not work any longer. Very frustrating.
Several of these links are not good anymore. Is there an update?
you're welcome!
