Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Cheryl,

As per another user, this problem is remedied by changing one piece of text in the printer's PPD file.

Your tech people ought to be able to make this fix pretty easily:

Fixed! By this solution:
From the Finder, select Go > Go to Folder…
In the dialog box, enter: /etc/cups/ppd
In the folder that opens, you should see a .ppd file with the name of your printer — open it in TextEdit (just drag the file onto the TextEdit app)
Look for the line *TTRasterizer: Type42
Change “Type42” to “None”
Save (you may need to enter an Admin password)

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Hi, CherylO -- I'll try to clarify. It's NOT a problem with PDFs nor a problem with "other documents." It's a problem with CERTAIN PDFs and it's a Postscript probem. Apparently the new driver doesn't process Postscript in some cases under Big Sur as it did previously.

I have only one document in particular this has been showing up on. All other documents -- all other PDFs -- are fine. It's just this one document. And I'm sure it'll show up on another document at some stage, too. What I'd like to do is furnish you the document in question so you can ascertain precisely what it is about the document that creates an error under the current driver + Big Sur, but which prints perfectly under the current driver + Catalina.

Please advise.

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Hi WaMa,

If you are getting the error only on PDF's you can try selecting "Print As Image" in Adobe before printing.  If that doesn't help or you are seeing it on other types of documents please completely uninstall the Xerox driver and empty the trash and reboot the mac.  Now reinstall the latest driver for Big Sur from the driver page for your Phaser 6600.  Please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Hi eeltrebor,

I am not sure of the reason but the Phaser 6010 being over 10 years old may have something to do with the decision.  You can try adding the printer on macOS using the built-in “Generic Postscript PPD”. Please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Why does Xerox not make the Phaser 6010 compatible to Mac OS Big Sur? I have a perfectly good printer as well as ink cartridges for this printer, and now I can't use it.  I will have to purchase a new printer, which seems like such a waste.

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Cheryl,

I'm sorry, but this simply isn't true -- the chart says there is full Big Sur compatibility for the Phaser 6600, but even the latest driver yields an error on many full color PDFs which print fine - with the same driver - on Yosemite. The error we're still getting is

ERROR: invalidfont
OFFENDING COMMAND: show

STACK:

(!)

It's been months. Postscript errors should have all been fixed by now. And if there isn't full compatibility, the chart shouldn't say as much. Please advise.

Re: Big Sur Compatibility Document Update

Hi Randy,

Please check the compatibility document.  Not all models will have a driver for Big Sur.
