It's been awhile since I have posted to this site, but... a couple of suggestions that have made a big difference in my experience...
Make sure you are using the dedicated device print driver for the printer model. Using anything else will not guarantee proper results (this includes generic drivers that MS loves to install automatically). I have the best results using a v3 (windows 7) Postscript driver. PCL6 drivers are faster, but can cause very poor color reproduction on color devices.
Some in this thread have mentioned that they are seeing an issue with light TEXT. If this issue is seen on TEXT ONLY (and especially from Microsoft apps), then there is a good possibility that the text within the document is being printed using CMY composite toners rather than black toner. I have seen this issue first-hand, more than once. The issue was not with the xerox device, but instead that the color of the digital text within the document was not actually black, it was a very dark gray. It looks black on screen to our eyes, but it did not have an attribute of black (R0/G0/B0). For instance, instead of the text having RGB values of 0, they were actually RGB values of 10. This will cause the printer to try to reproduce the text color of R10/G10/B10 as COLOR using CMY inks instead of trying to produce solid black text using black ink. Using CMY rather than black will produce a much lighter text than we expect.
Try this... select all the text within the document (Ctrl+A). Manually change the color of the text to solid black, using the color picker. DO NOT simply change the text color to the text DEFAULT color setting, choose BLACK specifically (0,0,0). Save the document and re-print.
Is the text on the newly printed page darker?
There are usually also custom driver settings (bw threshold) that can be adjusted to help compensate for this behavior.

I've had the same problem, drivers and firmware updated but this device is just equivalent of old brick and I know it's not the cartridge cos you can do a calibration printout from the reports and it prints black fine. Luckily this device isn't brand new and I can convince the board of management that its probably best we move to Ricoh as the device support has been attrocious and the value of money isnt worth it the cartridges are extortionate and they still at nearly 100% but it's still printing grey instead of black and white - hopefully after convincing this device is pointless I can convince them to match similar models for all our other business printers..
So Long Xerox your support has been poor your product even worse
Yes I did. I cleaned somethign like this, dependin gon the machine you have: https://www.facebook.com/fujixeroxdarwin/videos/626256831261847/
Were you able to get the issue with faint gray printing fixed? I have a client experiencing the same issue.
If there is, no one seems to know. Xerox is now a boat anchor worth nothing. It worked for a very brief time and I will not pay 1/4 of the value of the machine to have somebody service it. It should never have happened and unless xerox steps up with the real solution, caused by their own poor workmanship, I am stumped.
Is it a setting you have to change?
Thank you so much! I will contact them monday first thing.
