Can't get linux driver to work

The guys int the Fedora Forum helped me figured this one out. If anyone is interested in the solution, you will find ti in this thread:

The "new" Window Manager Wayland is the culprit. This drivers work only with the old Xorg technology. Ubuntu Still ships with Xorg as the default, and that is why it works with it. Since Xorg is slowly going away it would make sense for the developers of this driver to look in to this issue, well that is just a suggestion, and my two cents.

I tried with Fedora 29 and I get the same behaviour. When I try using Ubuntu I am able to get the driver almost right. I am able to set the ques and everything, however the accounting future that I need to be able to print is does not work. I choose the "Always Prompt" for code option and the the window will never pup up prompting for the code; instead it sends directly to printer just to be deleted for the lack of code. Correction: It works fine on Ubuntu -it took rebooting the machine though- 

Now that I see it works with Ubuntu I am lost?  Is there a way to ask the developers upstream to double check this issue?

P.S. I have asked for help in the Fedora forum days ago and nobody has been able to help. :(

Hello Donald

Thank you for your offer to help me over the phone. I would call you if the driver would be working the way is supposed to, however that is not the case. Yes, the driver install with no issues, but, like I mentioned in a previous post, when xeroxptrmgr invoked this is what I get

and if double click on the xeroxprtmgr inside the box, I get:

I am not able to set the printer address using the queue window becase it wont come up. 

It was suggested that I need to run xerox print manager as root. So I tried but nothing happens.

In the past, when using Fedora 29 using the x86 driver helped, despite the fact tha I am on a x64 system. Now on Fedora 30 the neither the x86 driver or older versions of the driver that I have saved would work. 

I appologize for the lengthy post. Just trying to clarify things a bit.

Hi Gerald,

This could be a cofiguration issue at the printer itself. Generally, successful installation of the driver and execution of the xerox print manager to add a printer indicates the driver is operating correctly. Please call us at 1.800.821.2797 so we may investigate all variables involved in the workflow.

Hi,

If the xerox print manager does not open at all when executing the xeroxprtmgr command as root user, it means you have installed the wrong architecture of the driver. For instance, if you installed the x86_64.deb package, it may be required that you install the i686.deb package or vise versa.

Flo1 thanks a lot! My issue still is not fixed, but at least I have and idea of where to look. Also, thanks for the clarification about this not being a Xerox's official channel. I had jumped to the conclusion that is was!

On the other hand. Because I've used Linux for years as a work station more than a developent platform, I still struggle to troubleshoot problems. Like now, even when I run the xeroxptrmgr with sudo, nothing happens. If I run it as root, the same effect, nothing happens. if I do ./xeroxprtmgr at corresponding directory, again, nothing. 

"ls -l" it shows:

 -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 34656 Jan 28 2019 xeroxlogmgr

I will continue to dig into this using the web, however your help would be much apreciated.

Hello Alex4

The behavior described in relation to the driver opening up the fax address book and not giving you access to much else is expected when running the xeroxprtmgr binary without admin privileges.

Please run the binary with su, sudo or equivalent user privilege elevation to get access to create queues and set printer specific options, like enabling accounting on the queue.

PS! This forum is supposed to be powered by its users (anyone who registers), and is not engaging any official Xerox support channel. If you don't get a timely response from the community by posting questions in the forum, I suggest contacting Xerox through the official support channel (normally via phone) to get a support ticket opened against the issue experienced. This way, unless they can resolve it right away with you on the phone, your issue is tracked and you will get a dedicated resource engaged to deal with it.

Have you figured something out? Where I am at the printers have accounting turned on. I need the xerox printer driver to be able to configure the accounting settings. The silence from the xerox support has me scratching my head. They have been very helpfull in the past. How unfortunate is that my district decided to upgrade the printers the previous model had no problems using the linux driver

I am having a similar problem on:

Ubuntu 18.04
Driver in the Debian package

Installation of driver is successful. Creating a print queue with xeroxprtmgr is successful but nothing prints. I checked /tmp/Xerox*.log but I don't see anything useful.

Somebody please help. Where is the xerox support team?

Using Fedora 30 (Linux 5.1.20-300.fc30.x86_64)  with the xerox5pkgLinuxx86_64-5.20.652.4537.rpm.

Driver installs with no errors. Typing xeroxprtmgr at the command line does not bring up the queue to set up printer address, instead brings up a fax function related window. 

Is it even possible to get this printer working under linux?
