Cannot get pdf's to print in true black - Workcentre 7220

Product Name: WorkCentre 7220/7225
Operating System: Windows 10 x64

When we print color pdf files to our Workcentre 7220 using the PCL6 driver, black comes out as some sort of composite black with a brownish tint. I have tried all suggestions I have found for similar problems: checking and unchecking the "let printer determine colors" and "print as image" boxes in the adobe advanced settings dialog, etc., and can not get true black no matter what.

This is a problem not only because this situation meters even a page of black-only type as a color page, but also because the brown print just isn't as readable as true black.

I just tried printing the same file to a desktop Brother HL-L8250CDN, and black comes out as true black while colors are accurate.

Has anybody else encountered this problem? Any ideas?

Also use Treat grays as K-only grays

OK, so I tried those exact settings (see screenshot). I had never unchecked "Preserve Black" before.

Unfortunately, the black text STILL came out brown.

Any other suggestions? Thanks...

I don't know, if the document text is black, and the driver says to make black using only black, and the application says to make black only with black, I can't see how it can be coming out brown, since brown has to be using other colors for it to exist on the paper.

And if the hardware was the problem you would not be stating a problem with printed text, because the printer doesn't care if the color black is making a letter or a picture.

Re: Cannot get pdf's to print in true black - Workcentre 7220

Thank you, Joe...I really am baffled, all the more so because nobody else seems to have ever experienced this problem! I'm thinking it's something in the way the pdf's are encoded, but the brown color seems to emerge whether I'm attempting to print a pdf I downloaded from somewhere else or if I'm attempting to print a pdf I created with Adobe or Nitro. And, as I noted earlier, that downloaded pdf I used in the example printed with the text in true black when I sent it to our cheapo Brother printer.

I will keep experimenting to come up with an answer! Thanks for replying again.
