I'm having a printing issue with the VersaLink C7030 that is driving me nuts. I hope I am missing something simple. This is for Windows 10.
Consider this (or similar) scenario:
I set up a Letter-size document in Word that uses cardstock. In Page Setup for Word, for Paper source, I can select Cardstock. I want to print from the bypass tray, so when printing from Word, I can select Printer Properties, and then from the Xerox driver, I can select Paper>Select By Tray>Bypass Tray. This works as expected. When the job come to the printer, the printer asks for 8.5 x 11 Cardstock. I put the Cardstock in the bypass tray, tell the printer that the paper inserted into the bypass tray is Cardstock, and the cardstock is pulled at a slow speed from the bypass tray. Perfect!!!
Now...move to QuickBooks, where I want to print a check from the bypass tray. The checks are essentially plain paper, and the can be printed at normal speed. QuickBooks doesn't have it's own page setup dialog box like Word does. When choosing printer settings in QuickBooks, the Xerox driver is pulled up immediately. The problem is, when I print the check, I cannot independently select paper type and tray. If I select Bypass Tray, when the job comes to the printer, the printer asks for 8.5x11 Cardstock (or whatever the paper type of the last job printed to the bypass tray because the paper type defaults to Automatically Select), and prints the checks slowly. When I insert the check, if I tell the printer that the paper is Plain, it won't print the job because it wants Cardstock. If I select Other Type>Plain in the driver, the paper is pulled from Tray 1. Choosing Other Type or Select by Tray seems to cancel out what was chosen for the other.
Why does the driver not let me independently select paper type and tray? Is there a way to do this and I am missing something? This is fine for apps like Word that have their own dialogs to pick paper type apart from the driver. However, there are numerous apps like QuickBooks that aren't that sophisticated, and rely on the driver to select tray and paper type.
I use a number of other printers (HP, Sharp, Brother), and the Xerox seems to be the only one where I can't independently set/override the tray and paper type from the driver before printing.
