Thanks Joe, the problem was indeed with accounting.
I had to open up xerox print manager under linux (sudo xeroxprtmgr) and go to
-> quee preferences -> configuration tab -> accounting button
there change the default user ID to reflect the one that is setup via the printer admin panel. In my case there was a one letter difference
and change the accounting group to default group account.
Then I had to open up versalink admin panel via the built in webserver. Go to permissions, edit my user account and link my computer's user name with my printer's user account.
and I can finally print...
016-757 is an accounting error, it implies you set up XSA but did not submit a username with the job.
Or did not set it up and did send the user info with the job.
Thanks for the answer, however my problem persists.
I've looked at the permissions panel but couldn't find anything in settings that would set me apart from other users.
But for experiments sake, I've deleted and recreated me as a user.
As for the printing of .php files from the admin account - it was a plain text file with only a different extension.
Submitting a plain text file with .txt extension or a .pdf file result in a different error 016-757 now.
Attaching a couple of screenshots and hoping for more insight on the problem.

017-798 = Job type print made that is prohibited.
That would mean something in the job is calling for something you locked down on the printer.
My guess would be it was done in here, but that is just a guess, it may also be that you are trying to submit to a Mailbox, and the printer doesn't support that.
The other one is pretty clear in your screenshot
Retry the web submission using VennDiagram2.pdf and it will work
Hello, I've installed the latest Xerox print manager
Linux Intel Driver .DEB x86_64 5.20.606.3946
from the official driver site on linux Ubuntu 16.04
The printer VersaLink B405 is recognized and setup but I cannot print anything.
When I try to print from the workstation I keep getting the error Completed Error 017-798 and nothing leaves the printer.
When I try to print directly form the built-in web server logged in as administrator I get another error and nothing leaves the printer.
Pictures attached.
Any help greatly apprieciated since I cannot the printer to work.
Regards
Piotr
