Hi,
I replaced the transfer unit with a brand new unit direct from Xerox and the problem remains. The problem only really exists when printing blocks of red or a reddish colour. The Magenta cartridge was brand new only a few weeks ago and the problem was present before and after it was swapped. I have looked inside the printer and I cannot see any obvious issue.
Thanks. I will order a transfer unit and post back next week with an update.
Looks like your initial diagnosis would be correct, that appears to be the transfer unit
I do not believe it to be the Magenta cartridge as I have had this problem for quite a while now and the Magenta has since ran out and been replaced and the issue is still there. I always buy genuine cartridges.
I ran through 20 blank sheets from Word and they all came out blank with no stray toner. I also ran through a sheet with a few coloured lines on, 3 sheets, 1 for each colour. These all produed a few marks of Magenta toner. When running through blocks of colour, the toner marks are much more visible on the Magenta sheet than the Cyan or Yellow. I have uploaded some photos for you to see below:

Thanks for your help.
Possibly, but the Magenta cartridge is also a possibility.
Fuser is not the issue as it is last in line, so it could not affect only magenta. And if it could, the magenta toner would not be fused.
So, best bet is to print blanks, Run a print job out of Word that is 10 pages of absolute nothing. If the Magenta spots keep printing solid it is probably the Magenta cartridge, if it fades and disappears each time it is probably the Transfer unit.
Obviously I can't give you a 100% guarantee, just good probability.
Hi,
We have a Phaser 6280dn which has printed 55,000 pages. We have started to get print quality issues. Picture:
I did some research and thought it looks like the transfer unit needed replacing. I tried cleaning the transfer unit with an alcohol wipe but this has no effect. I contacted Xerox tech support who weren't massively helpful but they said it could either be the transfer unit, fuser unit or imaging unit. I cannot find any reference to the imaging unit in the documentation or online if I were to buy one.
If the transfer unit needs replacing I am happy to purchase one but I need assisant if possible on confirming that is the issue.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
