Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

On 2nd thought and after digging a bit through the aformentioned EFI Forum, using EFI's Fiery Express Driver is a clearly superior option at this point in time.

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

I've been printing in Lion to a DocuColor 252 w/ built-in Fiery controller using Apple's Generic

PostScript Printer driver with a manually tweaked version of their Generic.ppd (found in

System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/

Versions/A/Frameworks/PrintCore.framework/Versions/A/Resources) to include the sheet

sizes I was missing in the original PPD.

This gives me rudimentary print cababilities - choosing sheet sizes and duplex printing works,

all other job control options (such as choosing grayscale output or finishing options

beyond duplex printing) remain inaccessible.

Developing a printer driver for a new major release of an operating system isn't nearly

as complicated as EFI and Xerox will have you believe. I assume that one of the biggest

problems is the large number of equipment combinations that need to be supported.

Regardless of that I find it quite shocking that we still haven't seen anything

emerge out of the EFI/Xerox Bermuda triangle for us MacOS Lion DC 252 w/ built-in

Fiery customers.  Why am I paying extra for a production system again?

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

I haven't heard anything yet on a possible release date, but I do know it takes a joint effort between Xerox, EFI and Apple to get these drivers built. For new products running new RIPs, it is easier for the manufacturer to build in the support into the drivers for the new operating sytems. It is more difficult however to build this same support into drivers for exisiting RIPs when new operating sytems come along such as 10.7 that are so completely different from their predecessors. So, this is probably the reason for the delay.

I would suggest checking the EFI forum http://fieryforums.efi.com/index.php regularly which has great info, and might be able to give you a "heads up" to the availability of these drivers.

I will also post back here if I learn anything further on the progress.

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

thank you so much!

For information when they plan to distribute the drivers for a printer that doesn't cheap?

Latest economic printers xerox support lion, i'm surprised!

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

This document shows compatability "1" for 252s using the Xerox FreeFlow RIP.

The "Built in Fiery Controller" lists as "TBD"

Right now, I have a number of customers running 10.7 with the same problem.

Most are using the workaround of importing PDFs into the "held" queue of CommandWorkstation and adjusting the properties as needed from there.

It is not ideal, but they are at least able to get work out until 10.7 is fully supported through the driver.

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

The file is what you have attached. I wonder what that levelof compatibility is 1 and the legend reads: Drivers for Mac OS X 10.7 can be downloaded from Xerox.com. These drivers are fully compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Why?

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

I don't know what document you might have found that information on, but the latest Xerox 10.7 compatability list shows the the bustled Fiery for the 252 as "TBD" To Be Determined. So, they probably haven't posted drivers for it yet.

Re: Docucolor 252 - Driver Lion 10.7

dont have experience with mac 10.7 , but on 10.6 , you can manually install an printer and then manually select the ppd file instead of using the wizard

offcourse you need to install the dmg , so the .ppd will be copied to your library
