Your Xerox 252 is not compatible with Command Workstation 6. On macOS Catalina you cannot run Command Workstation 5 because it is a 32bit application and your operating system does not support 32bit applications. You will not be able to use Command Workstation to operate your Xerox 252 natively on macOS Catalina.
In our offices we have Xerox DocuColor 252. Up until now, where all our 'tenants' have Windows OS there was no problem with connecting to the printer.
Recently we have a few new occupants which are unfortunately using Mac's. Some of them are on El Capitan, some on Catalina.
We have gone through all support topics related and downloaded latest drivers:
- XeroxPrintDriver_4.17.1_1980 Mac OS Common Print Driver Installer - for El Capitan
- XeroxDrivers_5.7.2_2221 macOS Print and Scan Driver Installer - for Catalina.
As per Product Compatibility chart (SFTDS-02U.pdf page 9) El Capitan supports DocuColor 252 unfortunately after installing the drivers and typing IP address for the printer, it is not recognised. We tried to choose manually C60/C70/550/Generic Postscript PPD and none of them works. We can 'see' the printer supplies then choose i.e. C60 or when typing printer IP into the browser but when we try to print nothing happens as there is no trigger to execute print option in the 252.
We do not require a lot, just print A4, A3 both sides to serve our tenants.
Any help in this matter is highly appreciated.
The DocuColor 252 has no built-in print controller, so it has to have a digital front end (DFE) of some kind. There were several available for that machine.
Fiery (integrated and external), FreeFlow, Creo, and Splash.
The only one of those that might be supported by the Xerox macOS universal driver is the FreeFlow. If you don't have a FreeFlow then that is not the right driver to use. I don't think the FreeFlow has been supported past macOS 10.11.
If you have a Fiery they haven't had fully featured drivers for that model since macOS 10.7 about 9 years ago. If you have a Fiery then you'll have to use the Fiery Express driver which provides basic functionality.
The Fiery Express Driver just installs the driver. You then need to install the printer using System Preferences and choose Fiery Express as your printer type.
That 252 is old now. It's very easy to continue supporting it for Windows but if you are going to continue to have more mac users to support then it really should be replaced with something newer. A C70 or a PrimeLink since the machine that originally replaced the 252, the Color 560/570, isn't likely to get continued driver support on macOS past Catalina.

I did try the steps mentioned in your message on the Mac El Capitan OS (10.11) machine.
Drivers installed without any problems and I have chosen Fiery Express Drivers as a printer. Tried to print anything and it says ‘Unable to get printer status’

I have a Xerox Phaser 6128 MFP that works perfect, we only use Mac at home and when upgrading to Catalina OSI we found we lost the ability to scan and print. I see on the xerox site this model is no longer supported, any person in the community has found a work around or willing to biuld a 64 bit driver? all replies wouldbe apprecaited
