Hi @bjorntj,
I have the exact same issue trying to install printer on a recent linux system. Did you found a solution ?
Thanks
No, I do not expect every Xerox employee to know how to use every operating systems in the world but I do expect that when a Xerox employee does not know the answer, he/she either tries to find the answer or put me in contact with someone that knows the answer!
Of course I am using root when installing, that's not the issue... It seems to be a CUPS issue to me, perhaps I am using a newer version than expected and the installation script is not able to figure out how to install the printer. (Arch usually have the latest version of the software...)
But this should be easy to answer for the right person, I guess someone has made this installation and then also knows what these error messages means; this shouldn't be this difficult.......
Installing a generic PPD in CUPS might work as a workaround, but I then need some documentation like which protocol to use and which URI and also which changes is needed in the PPD?
It sounds like what happens when you run it without root privilege's, which is needed . installation instructions.
Try posting some screenshots of your setup, or even a video of the whole thing via a screenrecorder like Kazam
There is also some tips in the man pages for xeroxprtmgr, xeroxquemgr etc.
You can also just install via CUPS and the generic ppd. But you then have to modify the PPD a bit or you will end up with every option the machine can support whether or not you have those options.
Nobody on the Internet knows who you are or where you live, but in general, when it isn't stated , you are assumed American. And when you are on a forum hosted on Xerox.com (US based) it is even more likely. And expecting every Xerox employee to know how to use every operating system in the world with every device Xerox has ever sold is just unrealistic.
btw, I added the file /opt/Xerox/prtsys/.xp_cfg as suggested by someone else and got one step further, with a new error message;
ERROR/OSInterface: Failed to determine printing subsystem
ERROR/Prtmgr: Unable to get OS Interface to check queue name
Hi bjorntj,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. Please take a look at the solution for adding the printer in Linux and see if that helps. If not please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
Anyone?
BTJ
I am trying to install a Xerox printer using xeroxprtmgr and running Arch Linux.. But when I press OK in the Queue Settings window, I just get the following errors in the log file:
12:04:02 PM - ERROR/OSInterface: Failed to open config file
12:04:02 PM - ERROR/Prtmgr: Unable to get OS Interface to check queue name
Which config file is it trying to open? Any other things I need to know to be able to add a Xerox WorkCentre 7855 printer using Arch Linux?
Regards,
BTJ
