Not ever turning this printer off would be a great solution if the printer remained in its sleep mode after entering it. Mine periodically, and randomly, powers itself back on from sleep mode with no user interaction or input whatsoever, even during the middle of the night. It seems completely obvious to everyone except for Xerox employees that you should be able to power on this printer without it forcing you to waste tons of ink to, oftentimes unnecessarily, clean the print heads. This is the worst purcahse I ahve ever made in my life and the support has been horrible.
I'm thoroughly frustrated with how much ink is wasted on cleaning the jets in my 8560 (FBW101364).
I'm getting streaks regularly so I'm using the advanced troubleshooting to clean jets. I emptied the wastetray and logged my ink percentages. After three cycles of clenaning to remove all streaks, my waste tray was half full and I lost 17-23% of the inks. I don't turn it off unless it freezes on me, which has happened twice in the last month I just discovered that the waste tray over-full after a cleaning and power up. So as best I can deduce that's a $100 to clean and power up the printer a few times -- LAME! Not so lame if the price of these sticks would drop by 60%.
Pam,
I am also experiencing the same problem. This is the story. We purchased an 8560 MFP and had a heck of a time getting the printer drivers to work at all. At first it just printed gray scale finally after being on the phone with Xerox for an hour we figured out that because I have a brand new computer that we needed to use the Global printer driver. Once it did print then the color was muddy looking I talked to a tech who works on Xerox and he said that I needed to print about 60 copies to clear out the printhead that apparently seems clogged from the previous user. I ended up printing about 200 pages and still there were the lines in the paper I continued to do the trouble shooting and printing the test pages to figure out which print jet was creating the problem. Do the process of me just printing 200 hundred sheets it said that the ink was low. Keep in mind I just spent $400 and JUST put brand new ink in. I came back the following day and still we had this line running through the page it was looking a lot better but I still needed to try to get rid of this line so I did more testing and bought another $400 of ink and again it said low on ink. I know I filled the ink and it was 75% they are all now at below 25%. I only have printed 300 pages at the most I thought this printer was suppose to print 36,000 pages that is one of the reasons we bought this printer. Also in 1 day it said that the waste toner was full twice. There is no way that we can afford to spend $400 a day on ink and still not get anything accomplished. Please please respond I would hate to think this was a bad purchase.

If you search the online knowledgebase for Minimize Ink Consumption
This below are some suggestions...
Do not power OFF the printer. Powering OFF the printer longer than 3 or 4 minutes will cause the printer to perform a printhead maintenance cleaning cycle, which uses ink. The printer is designed to enter a Sleep mode to minimize energy consumption.
Do not leave the covers open. When a cover is opened, the printer heaters are turned off for safety. This can allow the printer to cool down to a level that will require the printer to perform a printhead maintenance cleaning cycle.
It is recommended to have the printer's power cord connected directly into the electrical wall outlet. It is not recommended to use a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), surge protector, drop cord or extension cord as a source of power for the printer.
NOTE: If the machine is already in sleep mode and a cover or door is open, it takes very little additional time for the machine to cool further; which will require a printhead maintenance cleaning cycle.
Using higher than 5% coverage per each color of ink will reduce the Ink Stick life expectancy of about 1,000 prints per stick. The Photo mode uses more ink for its higher dots-per-inch resolution.

PamY . . . Neither of these links work. . . is there somewhere else that I can read about minimizing ink usage?
Thank you!
