Your print driver cannot be modified by your printer, your OS wouldn't allow that, your print driver can definitely be made to not work correctly with the device in question, but your preferences are set in Windows. Drivers do have bi-directional functionality that allow the driver and the application to see what paper is in the device, and how much toner, and even if the machine is jjammed, but that can only happen because the Windows PC allows the driver to initiate the communication. The printer is able to do so when requested, but it cannot actually make modifications on its own to any file of the driver in the spooler where the driver configs are stored.
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86 for 32bit
C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64 for 64bit
And data loss at the device happens when you do an ALTboot (Or NVRAM resets) for sure, every setting on it will be wiped, which is why it cannot be done accidentally, if you do an Update to the latest firmware no settings are lost at all, this is done when you install the firmware through Centreware Internet Services. An ALTboot can only be done to a device by installing via USB drive hooked to the printer and placing the firmware inside a folder then rebooting the device to initiate it.
It is possible an altboot was done to the device if a tech was made to do the install as that is what an onsite tech should do, the owner is in charge of doing the updates, techs wipe the device in order to eliminate all possibility of corruption.
Beware, if you upgrade the firmware, you MUST upgrade to the latest printer driver.
If you dont do that, you network controller wel reset itself.
After upgradeing you printer "preferences" like "letterhead / pre-printed / etc... are GONE !
Your warned, if you start upgradeing you get yourself in a bigger mess.
Yes I can...
Our reseller has told us that the current firmware we have (222.15103) is the most current available. Can you absolutely confirm that it is indeed 15 versions outdated before I call them on it?
There are 15 newer than the one you have.
61.132.222.15103 was from June 2012
61.132.225.27300 is the latest and is dated October 2015
I am wondering how many versions of firmware I am behind on one of our WorkCentre 5775 machines.
This is the current firmware: 061.132.222.15103
