Your interpretation is spot on, and your method could/should work, but at this time, even in the latest firmware, it isn't an option, the user does not exist to modify.
I spoke to the testing team, they agree on the issue, it should be added. Best bet now is to call them and request it.
To be clear, the testing team doesn't code the firmware, but you go through them to have the request sent up the chain to them. And they can't do that until they get a request from a customer by phone.
That would depend on where in the world you reside.
In the USA it is 1-800-939-3769, they will need your Serial number and a scan of the printers configuration report (For process reasons, it isn't required to verify your settings in this case)
