Force input paper tray selection. Phaser 4622

I'll try to clarify the problem.

I have several Xerox printers in my network. And several are connected to a print server, let's call it Server1

On one of them, lets call it Phaser1, we need to use different trays for different jobs. So the printer has been setup at the server as two different printers. Lets call them Phaser1.Tray2 and Phaser1.Tray3

In theory, this should be as simple as setting this up as two printers, and set the default printer settings for each printer. And this nearly works. The printes will switch between the settings I have set, and the factory defautl: automatic tray selection. So if there is paper in tray2, jobs that should be on the forms in tray 3 might end up being printed on the forms in tray 2... Or if tray 2 is empty, jobs that should be printed on the forms in tray 2, will go to tray 3, which have some other form. Note that the switching occurs without anyone changing anything.

So I need to lock \\Server1\Phaser1.Tray2 to only use the paper in Tray 2, and \\Server1\Phaser1.Tray3 to only use the paper in Tray 3.

If I could assign a settings file to each printer, that would be great, but it looks like the settings file would be common for all the printers using the xerox driver. It seems it should be possible to set different settings for different types of printers, but I need different settings for different printer names.

In the registry, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Xerox\PrinterDriver\V5.0 I find the printer names. Is it for instance possible to set the config file directly on the printer?

But is there any way to create a settings xml file pr printer, not for every printer using that driver?

For the immidiate needs, I need to enforce different trays depending in what printer is used. We also some Xerox printers, that is using the same universal driver, where the regular settings are OK.

I notice every printer is listed withing the registry, so I would not be surprised to learn there is an option to set a stttings file pr printer, even if the listed documentation calls for it to be set in the driver -> configuration. part of the registry. Can I use the same keyword in under the printer somehow?

Only way is to preconfigure the driver with enforced settings

I got a Phaser 4622

It has been setup as two printers at the server, and default printer settings have been set for each of them. Each with it's designated inpu tray. (Different forms, used by different departments.) But all paper is A4, plain white. And naturally there is some niche software involved. So I need to use this virtual printer workaround.

Now, when printing to these, they will semi randomly revert to automatic. This will cause them to print to the wrong forms.

This happens at the driver level. Loggin into a TS, mapping the printer as new, and looking at the settings. It will usually be automatic the first time. If I then hit cancel, to exit the print settings menu without changing anything, and then go back in, it usually is et to the correct tray.

This 4622 is replacing a 4620. The 4620 has also been set as two different printers, by one of my predecessors. But they only show the manual tray, and one more. So automatic will default to the correct input tray.

Can anyone shed some light on how I make trays unavailable at the driver level? Or how I can force tray selection at the driver?
