Quite unexpectedly a repair technician phoned me today to say he could be at my house in 15 minutes. I mean, this was great but no one had told me an onsite tech was being dispatched. I phoned Support to confirm that a repair order had in fact been placed.

Okay, the Tech told me that the Xerox Phaser 6500N uses IPv4 (apparently mine was setup for IPv6). He unplugged the network cable from the printer and plugged it into his PC laptop. The other end of the cable remained connected to the Orbit Router. Then using Microsoft software he determined that the IP address that has been assigned to the printer is 192.168.1.48. He set this up (on the Router, I think) and now the Xerox Configuration Page shows the actual IP Address, instead of zeros. Case closed.

If it is DHCP and not getting an address, try static and see if it communicates, if it does, the issue is on the router/cable/port, if it doesn't the NIC (printer) /cable/ port is at issue.

At which point you replace the cable and try another port on the router. If that fails you attempt a connection with another router to eliminate it from the equation.

Thank you Joe.  I am following the steps you outlined, except for "Return" at the end.  At that point the Panel is telling me: "Restart Printer to apply settings."  Since I dont know which button you are refering to when you say "Return", I toggle the printer off and on but nothing seems to change.  MEL

Mine doesn't ask for a reboot, are you doing it this way?

Menu > Admin > OK > Network Setup > OK > TCP/IP > IPv4 > Get IP Address > OK > DHCP/AutoIP > OK > Return

And yes, reboot is via the rocker switch on the left side panel.

When trying to obtain the IP Address, using the Panel, I get to the point where it says to "Restart Printer." I have been flipping the toggle switch to power off the printer and then powering it back on. Is this the right way to "Restart Printer"? I'm not yet that familiar with the 6500.
