I go on vacation in 20 minutes for 2 weeks so I won't be helping further.
The method absolutely pulls from different trays, if it does not, you have the wrong driver setup or are not accounting for digital pages vs physical sheets (number cuts in half when printing duplex) so if you had a 12 page job and tell it pages 10-11 come from a different tray, but you print duplex , only 6 pages come out and no alt tray call is made because it never got to page 11 in the first place.
Arghhh.
I've sent a stern email to the American 2nd level team correcting this information.
Sorry this misinformation was spread.
I'll check again, but I am fairly certain the FIRST method is how we are sending the job to the printer. When I get a moment, I'll give the "manual" option a try and see how it does.
Thank You for your response. I'll make sure to come back and accept the reply once I verify it works.
FYI - Xerox Level 2 support told me that this printer can not handle mixed media without a "Xerox EFI Fiery Network Server"
Should be done as you stated with Acrobat/Reader and the driver set to automatically select the tray.
The other way is to do so manually. Do not let acrobat use Choose paper source by pdf page size.
Then set the driver to whatever settings are the majority. For example a 45 page job where all but 4 pages are Letter size, the 4 are tabloid.
Then you switch to the Document Options tab and hit the Special Pages area. Click the third icon <Add Exceptions>
Enter the page numbers for the tabloid sheets and choose tabloid in the paper box.
Caveats:
If the tabloid pages are upside down, switch methods. I don't know why it happens, but it does occasionally when using the choose paper source by pdf page size option, it has nothing to do with Xerox, happens with lots of printers.
Page numbers can be difficult, you have to account for duplex, so it gets bad when the mixed pages are single pages, you can end up with a tabloid size on one side, and letter on the other side of it due to their being only one tabloid page. The machine doesn't care, if you tell it page 3 is tabloid, it will put digital page 5 on the front and 6 on the back.
We have a standard Workcentre 7845i that does not have any sort of finishers or extra bells and whistles. We do A LOT of report printing and these reports consist of mixed media. Most of the pages are portrait 8.5 x 11, but mixed into the document are landscape 11x 17's. These are PDF files and we are using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. In "Page Size & Handling" , we are choosing Fit, Choose Paper Source by PDF Page Size, and Auto Portrait/Landscape.
I have found how to scan and copy mixed media but for the life of me, I can not find how to print mixed media from a PC. Please help, I'm going nuts!
